Megan & William | Spring Wedding at Tuckahoe Plantation

Virginia is for lovers, as the state’s slogan goes, and it’s certainly appropriate for Megan and William who celebrated their nuptials at the beautiful Tuckahoe Plantation in Richmond. And Snippet & Ink Select vendor, Katie Stoops, was there to capture all the details, like the super fun welcome bag goodies: locally roasted coffee (and a souvenir mug), cookies in the shape of Virginia, a bottle of locally brewed beer, Virginia peanuts, and more.

In addition to their attendants (three each), the couple had honorary bridesmaids and groomsmen, also known as a “house party,” where dear friends are honored by processing in during the ceremony, but are seated with the congregation during the ceremony. (Check out this Southern Weddings post on the house party tradition!)

The groom and groomsmen wore “Clemson orange” bow ties for the groom’s alma mater.

A trolley transported the wedding party from the ceremony to the reception.

There is a tradition at Tuckahoe for brides and grooms to bury a bottle of bourbon exactly one month before their wedding date, to ensure good luck and good wedding day weather. Megan and Will dug up their bottle that day and enjoyed some bourbon together.

Says floral designer Jeanette Kittrick, “Late April on the banks of the James River is quintessential springtime in Virginia. We wanted to highlight the lush garden setting, not compete with it. We used dogwood, garden roses, clematis, peonies, fiddleheads, freesia, and the bride’s favorite, tulips.”

The three-tiered wedding cake was lemon cake layered with buttercream and coconut.
