A Romantic Vintage Wedding Overlooking the Assiniboine River

Erin and Kit first met in high school, but it was during their vacation to Hawaii in February 2012 where their road to marriage officially began. While atop Mount Haleakala, Erin and Kit took some time to have a picnic and watch the picturesque setting sun. “It was bright, so Kit asked me to pass him his sunglasses,” Erin recalls. “I opened the sunglass case to grab them, and as I did a ring fell out onto my lap. I was shocked! He bent down onto one knee and asked me to marry him.”

What followed was a whirlwind of wedding preparations, culminating in a beautiful romantic vintage-inspired wedding. The two chose to incorporate some of their favourite colours — including ivory, blush, navy and coral hues — to create their perfect romantic, vintage theme. The wedding ceremony was held outdoors on the lower lawn of the Gates on Roblin and overlooked the Assiniboine River. Erin wore an elegant dress by Pronovias, while Kit donned a navy Hugo Boss suit. Though strong winds caused a bit of havoc on Erin’s veil, the couple didn’t let the gusty weather dampen their elation. “My sister had to hold my veil during the ceremony because it kept blowing in the wind,” Erin says. “But the best moment was looking down the aisle and seeing Kit standing there as handsome as ever with a big smile on his face looking back at me.”

The reception took place in the ballroom of the Gates on Roblin, where each table was adorned with vintage books and garden posies in vases. For an added personal touch to the centrepieces, the couple incorporated Erin’s teacups and tea sets, which were passed down from Kit’s grandmother. In place of a traditional wedding cake, Erin and Kit opted to give into their shared sweet tooth and have an entire dessert table, complete with delicious cake pops, cakettes, French macarons, and imperial cookies.

Apart from the beautiful décor and food, the couple says one of their most memorable moments from their wedding was listening to their friends’ and families’ heartfelt, touching speeches on their special day.
