The old adage “opposites attract” has never been more pertinent than in the case of Heather and Craig’s relationship. It’s the type of story you’d expect from a romance novel synopsis: a self-proclaimed city girl decides to do something a little unconventional and head to a local country fair where she ends up meeting a quintessential country boy.

Though they initially hit it off, the two didn’t reconnect until months later. At the time, Heather was in the midst of entertaining the idea of online dating. While browsing potential dates, Heather took notice of a man who she thought was particularly handsome. It was the first profile Heather viewed and she was immediately shocked by who she saw. “I clicked and there was Craig,” she recalls. “I doubted it, but then I saw a picture of him and his John Deere tractor. It was him. It was fate!”

Their first date consisted of Craig showing Heather around his hometown, pointing out where he would like to build his future home. Since then, the two have been inseparable.

The coupled opted for a December winter wonderland-themed wedding and adorned their reception hall with cool hues of blue, white and silver. They added a touch of whimsy to their wedding favours with John Deere tractor key chains and delicately-wrapped candies, which Heather says suited the “city girl meets cowboy” theme of their relationship.

While their wedding was filled with levity and humour, their most emotional moment was during their first dance to Johnny Reid’s “Dance with Me” — a song Heather says is very relevant to both her and her husband. “It speaks to the way we live,” says Heather. “As a farmer, Craig is gone for long hours. He leaves the house before I get up and arrives home after I have gone to sleep. We can go weeks without having a moment alone during harvest, but when it is just the two of us, the whole world disappears.”

Heather and Craig say their favourite memory was their grand entrance and the overwhelming response they received from their two hundred guests. “I never felt so happy, to have my one true love and to be supported and loved by so many people,” recalls Heather.

In true fairytale fashion, the couple now live in a new home they designed and built on the same property Craig had shown Heather during their first date. “It’s a dream come true,” says Heather. “I am the luckiest girl in the world.”
