Enchanted Forest Wedding in the US

Enchanted Forest Wedding in the US

via

This Saturday is all about whimsical, dreamy romance.

Crystal and Andrew married in the US and had a enchanted forest feel wedding. With atmospheric lighting, terrariums, feathers and decadent colours. Instead of flowers, foliage and greenery was used which looked visually amazing, I just love the pretty ferns. I also have to mention Crystal’s midnight blue dress and Andrew’s formal tux. Such a stylish couple.

Thanks so much to Mitch Maher for sharing his photographs with us today. Here is what planner Nira Deluna of Amber Events had to say about their day:

“When I first met Crystal and Andrew, I knew they were just the type of people I wanted to meet: Warm, loving, and fun, and with a special charisma you don’t find everywhere.

Crystal and Andrew began telling me about their vision for their wedding, and as 10 minutes turned to two hours, I fell so madly in love with their vision. Crystal mentioned how her father owns a parrot, hence her parrot feather collection, which we incorporated into the design. Andrew was very skilled in making these amazing escort cards and table numbers made of wood! He personally had place cards with each guests name laser cut into it! A very thoughtful keepsake for guests. They collected antique postcards and encouraged guests to take them as favors. The flowers, or lack thereof, was very much intentional. We wanted the feeling of an enchanted forest. The receptions tables were filled with lively greenery, moss, twigs and terrariums full of interesting species. We continued the theme into details such as napkin treatments, and her bridal bouquet. Definitely one of a kind! That bouquet framed her beautiful face and blue wedding dress perfectly. Yes I did say a blue wedding dress! So romantic, unique and whimsical. The tulle fabric gave it such a touch of playfulness. A perfect description for this bride. Crystal even surprised Andrew with a custom made topper made from a specialty designer on etsy. It was a cartoon fabric version of them both.  This topper sat atop a very large cookie, which of course was the equivalent of the “cake cutting” that most brides do. They broke the big cookie together, which opened up the full cookie for guests. The night was organic, classy, and enchanting. Definitely one of my favorite wedding designs to date.”

From the groom Andrew:

“We didn’t want to do anything super over-the-top, but we did want to consider the details. We wanted something classy, but wanted to make sure that we didn’t ostracize anyone coming — we wanted the whole event to feel comfortable. We did away with a lot of the normal “wedding-y” stuff like a bridal party and a stuffy ceremony. We got some amazing advice early on from a book lent to us (“A Practical Wedding” by Meg Keene). To paraphrase — find a couple things about your wedding that are most important, don’t compromise on them and don’t sweat anything else. We fell in love with the venue, and we knew that Crystal’s friends who are in this great band would come out from Austin. Everything else was just gravy.

We didn’t really know what kind of “theme” we wanted — but Crystal’s dad has a bunch of parrots, and we used one of his teal parrot feathers as great jumping-off place as we considered everything else. I incorporated it into the invitation (which the folks at Aardvark letterpress did an amazing job printing!)

We didn’t want to do a guest book, and Crystal had the idea to do vintage-y postcards and put them in a suitcase (since she’s a flight attendant). I found a printer in San Diego that does reproductions, but had a minimum order — so we decided to make them escort cards and party favors and anything else we could think of (I mean, they even had a postcard from my small hometown in IL!). Another friend had a laser printer at her work and I wanted to do something with it, so we designed a little wooden holder for each card that included that parrot feather.

I thought that the wedding would be just like any other performance — but walking down the aisle, seeing people from my world in tech. my fellow actors, and our mutual friends — I was completely unprepared. Everything felt so warm and cozy and lit-from-within.

The best part, though, by far, was the ceremony. 15 minutes, delivered by my best friend, with this amazing woman in an outrageous blue dress and a big bouffant who still makes me laugh, especially when we forget which hand the ring goes on.

Sweet Sweet memories”
