1. It gives the both of you time to slow down. Reflecting on why you are choosing to align yourself with the other person will give you a greater sense of depth to your relationship. While many want to write individual vows, think about this, you are planning to be a unit, a single entity. writing separate vows is fine but do they really show your united hearts and minds?
2. Being on the same page as you go forward in life is very important. As you write your vows together you will see how large a gap there is in your differences if any. If there is a big discrepancy in the way you think about things there are decisions that need to be made. One would be to try pre-marital counseling.
3. Finding out what each of you see as vital in your relationship and what you both want your marriage to look like in the future, let's everyone know what you both are committed to creating.
