Life is not just about living, it's about experiencing, Ritu Kumar is few among those riders of life. Colors, designs, aesthetics, grace, she spun this magic into everything that she created.

Padma Shree winner Ritu Kumar presented an extremely beautiful vintage collection named "The Thunder Mountains and Curling Vine" on day four of Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013. The Ritu Kumar signature collection was entirely inspired from the deep woods and the mountainous terrains of the Himalayan region. It was a complete blend of hand woven back strap loomed fabrics, Bhutanese tangkhas, prayer flags, beautiful jamavar motifs, kanni weaves, hand spun khadi and the woven silks of Kashmir.

The Bhutan inspired collection featured a mélange of outfits and styles from short dresses and jackets to gorgeous anarkali gowns and sheer lehengas conceptualized from rich textured silk like Aari and Muga from the valleys of the Himalayas. We loved the amazing display of cream, white and gold Anarkalis and lehengas - a perfect choice for the modern bride who wishes to stay traditional and yet avoid heavily embellished outfits.

The first half of the show was devoted to the brocade short jackets, pencil skirt with belted shawl, collar jacket, textured woolen creations and the multi-fabric gathered dress in shades of white, red, black, orange. The second half was devoted to the most luxurious kalidaar kurtas in shades of white, khaki, and beige, mid-brown.

The show stopper for the evening was actress Nargis Fakhri dressed in a breathtaking creamy white Anarkali lehenga made in Ahinsa Silk. This particular silk is found in the Himalayan region and is made by a special method where the larvae is not harmed and only the silk is extracted from the cocoon. The Anarkali consisted of a lace kalidar kurta with a thick green and gold border hemline and heavy embroidery on the neck and sleeves. The look was completed with a white fully embellished flowing dupatta along with a diamond polki set, Haath Phool and Maang Tika.
