Hi lovelies! This morning the wonderful Karen of Karenanna Cakes joins us for one last time to explain the inspiration and ideas behind her Style Guide cakes. For the New England Issue, she created not just one, but three different cake designs showing you that even within one wedding theme there are a variety of options for styling your cake! Clean and classic are probably two of the most fundamental words for my cake style, so I couldn't have been happier working on this New England look! With a lovely colour palette of clean crisp white (a perfect wedding match) coupled with soft blues, navy, grey and a hint of peach, it all worked beautifully!

First up, a dreamy buttercream vanilla cake with blueberry buttercream filling and topped with fresh blueberries. This design would suit a country or rustic wedding perfectly and of course you can always add more tiers if needed! There's been a definite trend towards naked cakes throughout 2013, and this year's update includes buttercream icing and interesting layers. Secondly, this whimsical cake ticks all the romantic wedding boxes whilst staying within the theme. Fresh flowers create additional layers in between each crisply fondant iced tier, giving lots of height and making this a pretty statement option. A classic navy striped ribbon on each tier is a nod towards the nautical feel of this look - but you could adapt it using any coordinating colour ribbon. For a different look, ask your cake designer to use sugar flowers instead of fresh. Finally, this traditional three-tiered wedding cake is wrapped with a delicate ribbon lace for a budget-friendly but pretty alternative. You cake designer should offer you a consultation where you get the opportunity to discuss your design ideas and of course try some yummy cake samples! Talk to them about the use of ribbon, fresh flowers or even fruit on their designs - or you may prefer to have sugar flowers made that you could keep. Whatever your wedding theme, you should work together incorporating elements of your wedding to make a design that's perfect for you and your guests! Thank you Karen for spoiling us with your sweet creations in our Autumn, Festive and New England Style Guides! Next month we'll be saying hello to a brand new cake designer sharing her ideas for the next three Style Guides!
