Wedding Day Style: Heels, Platforms, Sandals, or Barefoot?

via

Every year, more and more brides are opting to have their wedding by the beach or in a quaint garden. Gone are the days wherein weddings are strictly held at a church, not to mention the limitations in decor that come with it. Outdoor weddings are becoming more popular mostly because they offer creativity, uniqueness, and beauty that a church wedding can't just quite capture.

Heels, Sandals, Flip-Flops or Barefoot?

For starters, make sure that your guests know you're having a beach or garden wedding so that they can dress appropriately. Just imagine if the ladies still wore stilettos and pumps - it might take them forever to get to their seats! As the bride, it's your job to get to the altar so heels are a definite no-no. In case you stick to an indoor wedding, you can keep the heels and throw them off later for something more comfortable (i.e. sandals or flip-flops).

The battle between sandals and flip-flops is more complex, since both are suitable for an outdoor wedding. In this case, it's up to you to decide. Take a look at your dress - does it look better with sandals or flip-flops? If you're worried that flip flops are too simple, that can easily be solved. Some flip-flops are bedazzled with beads or even Swarovski crystals on the straps. For the bride who really wants to feel the sand as she walks along the aisle, barefoot sandals are popular nowadays. These aren't shoes in the technical sense, but more of crystals and pearls hooked around your big toe, running across your foot and ending in a loop around your ankle. Yes, they don't come with a foot bed! Just remember that sand can get pretty hot depending on the time of day.

Why Flip-Flops?

If your guests still insist on wearing heels (more common for garden weddings), add some party favors for your guests by preparing a basket of flip-flops for each of them to take. Prioritize the ladies - after a long day's work, your bridesmaids definitely deserve to kick of their heels and to dance the night away.

Where Can I Get Flip-Flops for My Wedding?

No other footwear offers more versatility than flip-flops. If it's part of your personal style, then by all means flaunt it during your wedding day. Another advantage to this is that you can wear them more than once, as opposed to traditional wedding shoes usually only worn once.

Another upside to wearing flip-flops for your wedding is that you can make them, especially if you're a DIY fan. You can get ideas from websites like Myglassslipper to get you started.
