Destination Jewish wedding in France

Welcome to another wonderful week on French Wedding Style! Hello to all the new trulovers visiting for the first time and my regular trulove readers, who share my passion for everything French wedding.

I have an enchanting real wedding and wedding film to start the week, the destination summer Jewish wedding in France of Laura and Jonathan caputured by MICKAFilms and Craig George Photography. The couple met at a family's holiday dinner to celebrate the Jewish New Year, they shared the traditional apples and honey and so started their sweet journey together!

Bride Laura takes us through their love story:" Jonathan jokes that it is because I am a princess and I was in search of my wedding castle. The truth is that Jonathan's family lives in France and his grandparents in the Dordogne region. From my very first visit to the region, I fell in love! The beauty, the tranquility, the wine and above all, the gastronomy! Wine and foie gras! What can be better!

We both wanted a small and intimate wedding with our closest friends and family. We wanted to have great wine and exceptional food and offer our guests a sort of mini séjour. We also wanted to add some more traditional elements from our Jewish roots. We chose suppliers that were recommended to us by our wedding planner, Susan Christie from Marry Me In France . The caterer we searched high and low for and based on great recommendations from Sue and Jonathan's grandfather, we finally decided on Bergerac Traiteur. Our videotographer, MICKAFilms, was the greatest recommendation from our wedding planner. Not only did he capture the essence of our wedding, he created and produced a fairytale movie that captured our day in a way that will allow us to relive it for years to come. My dress was custom made by Les Noces Couture in Montreal, Canada. I originally wanted something very simple but when I saw the dress I eventually chose, it was anything but simple! I was actually hesitant up until the wedding day! But in the end I loved it! It was whimsical and I felt it fit well with the castle Jonathan wore a tux that he already owned (practical man!)! His eccentrism lay in the bow tie that he had custom made for himself with matching ties for his wedding party. The day unfolded beautifully. Our wedding planners scurried around organizing and assembling. Jonathan and I got ready separately with out respective wedding parties. As suggested by our Rabbi, we did not see each other the entire day leading up to the ceremony. I liked that we added this bit of traditionalism into our ceremony; it was extremely moving and nothing beats seeing your grooms face and reaction when you walk down the aisle! The ceremony was lead by our Rabbi from Paris and incorporated both traditional elements of a Jewish ceremony as well as some more unconventional ones. It was very personal with bouts of humour. Our family and friends participated in many aspects of the ceremony; they recited several blessings, shared some wine and witnessed our signing of our marriage contract. Our ceremony culminated in the breaking of a glass, or two in our case. Cocktails followed and were accompanied by a mistral band that serenated our guests. Champagne was flowing, foie gras was sizzling, and caramelized tomatoes quickly disappeared as our friends and family enjoyed each other's company as well as the views that the castle provided from its vantage point over the Dordogne River and Valley. Food was very important to us! Not being in France in order to experience the tasting part of planning a wedding was disappointing. Also, trusting that everything will come together and placing the details in the hands, albeit experienced hands, of a wedding planner was initially difficult. Also, time constraints only allowed for us to arrive 4 days prior to the wedding. Details like hair and makeup were left up in the air until a dry run only 24 hours before the wedding. We researched venues and planned a one-week whirlwind trip to France to visit all of our potential venues. This trip was an absolute must! I would however recommend planning a second trip that would entail tasting with caterers, as well as ironing out any other details that might have been facilitated by being on location (food tasting, hair, makeup...). Also, we took pictures of all the location and this helped us a lot when organizing sleeping arrangements for guests as well as designing the overall look of the wedding. Wedding planners were essential, at least for us. Not being in the same country and planning a wedding and getting all the details exactly as you have imagined them requires the assistance of a calm, collected, and savvy wedding planner! ...and a lot of pictures to help with the visualization! We honeymooned in Morocco! It was an adventure-packed vacation in which we traveled the country from Eastern Atlantic coastline, through the central Atlas Mountains, down to the Southern Saharan desert and finally to the Northern tip and Mediterranean Sea!"
