mint & coral anniversary shoot with a twist!

Planning your wedding is wonderful, fun, stressful and sometimes there's a massive temptation to ditch it all and just elope! I know the most important part of your day is the actual, you know, getting married bit but I'm pretty sure you're looking forward to seeing all your hard work come together too, the flowers, the details, the outfits? Can you imagine having none of that? And worst of all no photos at all to share the memories of your day?

Today's pretty shoot by Anouschka Rokebrand is part styled shoot, part anniversary shoot, and part... wedding! 7 years after their not-so-big day, they had the opportunity for a re-do, combining everything they would have loved to first time around - including a longed for wedding album. Neomi had the chance to live the wedding of her dreams and Thijs well, just look at that smile!!

Thijs and I got married 7 years ago, without ado, just in regular outfits at City Hall. At the time that seemed to be the most practical way to have everything arranged for the kids. We figured we'd get a do-over with the complete package of a wedding day sometime in the future. That turned out to be a great thought but not that easy to realize and the years moved on... By now we had 3 kids, so the wedding plans we had at the time got lost between diapers and raising them.
We both regretted it, me especially. And the more time moved on, the more I regretted it. I missed the things that a wedding entails, like trying on dresses and having a permanent heirloom: a wedding album. You probably don't notice this until you realize you don't have it but I can't count the number of times that people have asked to see our wedding album over the years, that we didn't have... When photographer Anouschka Rokebrand e-mailed me in January telling me she wanted to help us make this dream come true, I was ecstatic! Finally it would be happening! The date was easy to pick: our wedding anniversary on April 3rd. Naturally I wanted everything to be perfect. In a relatively short amount of time we had to arrange it all. We often asked Anouschka for advice. Since January we've been planning and arranging this day non-stop. Especially the styling took a lot of time. I had collected a lot of ideas over the years on how I wanted it to look and I didn't want it to look ordinary. Thijs got a new suit that he picked out with his parents and I was able to try on dresses with my mom, my mother in law and best friend beside me. We picked jewellery, chose flowers and picked hair and make-up looks. I did everything a bride would normally do for her big day and it felt so amazing! Early April the day arrived: THE DAY! The day in which everything you've spend so much time collecting and planning comes together. Our wedding (because yes, it really felt like our wedding!). We had the most amazing weather and since we had planned the shoot outside in a park in Amsterdam, that was the cherry on the cake. The day ran so smoothly and it turned out even more amazing than we had imagined. I was so touched by how it all came together so perfectly and the look on Thijs' face when he saw my dresses (there were 2!) is something I will never ever forget.
In the images I see my passion for pretty things but I also see the passion of everyone involved in this day. Such pro's! I never thought I could say this, but I'm happy how things went. We were now able to invest so much time and energy in just the photoshoot itself, even more so than you would be able to on a "normal" wedding day. We had an amazing time, I don't even have words to describe it all. The images speak a 1000 words....
