Sweet & Homemade Vintage Feel Wedding in Wales with a Maggie Sottero Dress | Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

Sweet, old fashioned and homemade are words I would choose to describe today's real wedding feature :-)

Gerallt and Cariad tied the knot in the Spring of last year at Plas Gwynfryn, Llanbedr in beautiful Wales. They wanted a vintage feel to their wedding day with a lot of love and family. There was much craftiness involving flowers, liberty print fabric and brown paper.

Cariad looked so very pretty in a tea length dress by Maggie Sottero, which she wore with a locket which belonged to her Grandma. Gerallt donned a dapper blue suit and the bridesmaids wore lovely turquoise dresses. Perfect.

Thanks goes to Gill Jones for sharing her gorgeous imagery today.

THE PROPOSAL | On the snow covered bank of an iced over Tarn Hows in the Lake District. Just us and a couple of cows. When he suggested we stop for a break on a bench halfway around I thought Gerallt was about to ask me if I wanted to eat my Kitkat Chunky, I wasn't expecting a proposal! Very romantical!l

THE VISION | A bit of Welsh, a bit of vintage, a bit of handmade and a whole lot of love and family. Dark dusty pinks and turquoise were our colours along with brown parcel paper and white linen.

THE PLANING PROCESS | Lists, a whole lot of lists! We kept all of ours in one notebook and dated all meetings and made notes on what we needed to do after each one.

THE VENUE | Plas Gwynfryn, Llanbedr. We knew as soon as we saw it that it was where we wanted to get married. It was small but just the right size for us. We hired the whole house for the weekend with most of our guests able to stay in the main house while everyone else were able to stay in the surrounding B&B's, all within walking distance.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Maggie Sottero Isadora Ann. A beautiful ivory tea length dress with a lovely vintage feel to it.

My shoes were my sisters wedding shoes (also my 'something borrowed'), my locket belonged to my Grandma (my 'something old') and my silver charm bracelet, a gift over years from my sister.

FINDING THE DRESS | Wedding Belles, Llandudno. The first dress I tried on.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | An inky blue three piece suit from Charles Tyrwhitt, white shirt and colourful check tie, tanned brown brogues. Very handsome!

THE READINGS & MUSIC | An excerpt from Jane Eyre read by my Mum, Carol, it's one of our favourite books. And I Carry Your Heart by E.E.Cummings read by Bethan, Gerallt's sister.

Our processional song was Dodecahedron by Beth Jeans Houghton, for our recessional All I Want Is You by Barry Louis Polisar.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS |Olive Irons, the brides sister, Katie Merrills, the bride and grooms buddy and Manon Wyn Owen, the grooms neice . The older bridesmaids wore turquoise summer dresses from Oasis, shoes from Clarkes and New Look, sashes made by the brides mum and necklaces made to order from an Etsy seller. Manon, the younger bridesmaid wore a vintage style dress from Monsoon, sandals from Next, earrings by SerenD Jewellery and a pearl bracelet made to order from an Etsy seller.

THE FLOWERS | Ranunculus and gypsophila in dusty pinks, snowberries and ivy. The flowers were a massive joint effort by Cariad (the bride), Carol (brides mum), Helen (grooms mum) and Anwen (grooms Auntie). We were all up very late the night before the wedding finishing off bouquets and table arrangements but it was worth it, they were beautiful!

THE CAKE | A two tier ark chocolate and sour cherry cake with cherry liquer and a dark chocolate ganache, made by Olive, the brides sister. I made the cake topper using paper fans made from old book pages and mini paper bunting in the colours of our wedding, pink, turquoise and a bit of vintage floral.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Gill Jones Photography, we really liked her photos when we saw her website and really felt like we were on completely the same wavelength when we met. Gill was really easy to work with and we love our album!

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | We handmade a lot of the details from the flowers in vintage glass jars and old medicine bottles to the hand stamped order of service books and the wedding rings (made by Cariad). We used Liberty print fabric, brown twine and hand stamped tags to wrap Kitkat Chunkys for the favours. For our guest book guests were asked to write their message on a square of fabric to be made into a quilt along with liberty print fabric by the brides mum. We also had a lot of framed photos of our parents, grandparents and siblings weddings.

THE HONEYMOON | Two amazing weeks in New York City, we've never packed so much into one holiday. We wrote out a honeymoon wish list and asked our guests to contribute towards that instead of a traditional wish list. Some of the items included a walk through the cherry blossoms at the Botanical Gardens, a horse and carriage ride through Central Park or just a hotdog snack from a street vendor.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Seeing each other for the first time on our wedding day, nothing prepares you for how emotional it is! Also, all the Meatloaf fans singing and dancing in a giant circle to Bat Out Of Hell.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Save, save, save! Things can get pretty expensive if you don't keep an eye on what you're spending. And just enjoy the day, it goes by so quickly!
