Joshua and Jenna describe their California country wedding as rustic, whimsical, and creative.

And we couldn't think of a better way to sum up their gorgeous DIY day.

From crafty wedding staples like mason jars and tassel bunting, to innovative details like a coffee bar, and literary table runners, their charming wedding day is a DIY dream - and every moment was captured beautifully, by Matt and Dannie of Matthew James Photographers.

Joshua was ever the dashing groom, with a polka dot dickie bow and braces, while Jenna, was breathtaking, in an elegant strapless gown, birdcage veil, and some seriously sparkly statement earrings.

From their sublime ceremony in perhaps the most idillic chapel we've ever seen, to their fun BBQ reception complete with a popcorn bar, cupcakes and LOTS of dancing, Joshua and Jenna's wedding day was sweet, stylish, sincere, and chic.

The Theme

Our style/theme was country rustic with lots of antique/"shabby chic" features also. We hunted for treasures at local antique shops throughout our entire engagement to contribute to this wedding. Everything from mason jars and picture frames, to suitcases and wooden doors. We love antiquing, it's one of our hobbies, so we thought that adding that to our wedding would be suiting to our style and fun for us at the same time! Our color palette was very soft. sort of springy pastel colors. We used lots of peach, mint green, pale pink, and added in some gold here and there also. We took these colors and used all different shades of each.

The Attire

We kept it relatively simple, we wanted everyone to be comfortable. The boys just The girls wore flowy peach dresses with mint green necklaces Our flower girls wore tutu dresses from Etsy. We left the mothers with complete freedom to wear what was comfortable for them within our color palette. I think they did a pretty good job! For our flowers, honestly, we gave our florist a lot She goes to the San Francisco farmer's market the day before the She's a personal family friend and we've seen lots of her work at friends' She used lots of roses and mums, and added in a lot We just loved it all and think she did a great job! Matt and Dannie (our photographers) are friends of ours, and we also have seen quite a bit of their work with some of our friends as well. We admire everything about their work and how comfortable they made us feel even at our first meeting. We knew we could totally trust them to capture our day exactly how we wanted it to be captured. They are so fun and professional at the same time. They have a way of giving guidance while still letting us be ourselves. We wouldn't have rather had anyone else to photograph the day of our dreams! of cool different flowers and greenery that I've never seen or necessarily know the name of. We had a buffet style BBQ dinner. Our cupcakes had a few different options in flavor. We had a chocolate caramel toffee, peanut butter chocolate, and a simple vanilla cake with almond frosting. So yummy! BBQ brisket, chicken, baked beans, jalapeño mac n' cheese, corn bread muffins, beer, sweet tea, and lemonade. For our centerpieces we used the blue mason jars and gold frames (that we painted with chalkboard paint for table numbers) that we acquired from local antique shops, polka dot bottles from IKEA, and wood slices that were provided by the venue ( they have a shed FULL of decorations that past brides had left behind that we were free to use!) Our DIY projects consisted of our table runners/covers made out of second hand book pages and tissue paper tassel garland (tutorial found on Pinterest). We also ordered small muslin satchel bags and a custom made stamp from Etsy and hand stamped each bag for our favors. Our guests filled their bags with scoops of French Roast coffee beans at our coffee bar. (We are coffee lovers also!) We also rented a lot of decorations such as drinking jars, drink dispensers, wooden doors, galvanized steel tubs, lanterns, chalkboards and purchased paper straws from Simple Country Weddings. She has SO MUCH awesome stuff and very affordable! weddings before and trusted she would understand what we were going for. We used Pinterest A LOT. Also, Green Wedding Shoes and 100 Layer Cake were helpful references just to get some inspiration. Ikea was a great place to find lots of cheap (but stylish) glassware such a bottles, candle holders, and glasses. We used the app by The Knot. They have a wedding checklist and budgeting tool that was very helpful for us. I also bought a book called Bridal Bargains. It was recommended to me by one of my bridesmaids who had gotten married the year before. It was really helpful as far as money saving tips and wedding etiquette. It even has a voucher in the back of the book that says if you follow the book's guidance and don't save at least $500 on your wedding, they'll give you your money back for the book! wedding and loads up on all kinds of locally grown flowers. I think our coffee bar was totally us. We have always been so in love with coffee and we thought sending our guests home with some to brew at home was the perfect thing. Also, our personal communion during our ceremony. Our relationship with Jesus is what is most important to us before anything else and I think it was the perfect way to acknowledge that as we enter into forever with each other in front of all our friends and family. of freedom to pick based on our favorite colors and flowers. and nude shoes of their choice. Our junior bridesmaid wore a cute peach lacy dress from Forever21 that was a little more age appropriate and comfy for her.
