Simple London Wedding with a Red Dress | Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

With 3 months to plan their wedding day Catherine and Michael kept their wedding simple and intimate. They wanted a London wedding and so held their ceremony at Stoke Newington Town Hall following a touching first look.

Catherine looked divine in a red dress by Preen, which she teamed with gorgeous Chrissie Morris heels and a DIY bouquet of white roses. Michael looked very dapper indeed in a blue suit with vintage pocket watch. So much love, so much style.

Thanks so very much to the wonderful Miss Gen photography for sharing her photographs with us this morning.

THE PROPOSAL | At home over breakfast.

THE VISION | A simple London wedding, with a focus on conversations and dancing, as opposed to formality.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We wanted to get married fairly quickly and we knew we wanted the ceremony at Stoke Newington Town Hall, so we just called them up and booked in the closest Saturday date that we could. This date was three months away so we had to have everything ready pretty quickly. As we weren't too worried about small details it all seemed to come together without any hitches. Once the party venue was booked we just had to worry about decorations, catering and photography.

We were lucky enough to have a caterer recommended by a friend Hulya Erdal. She was really laid back and easy to work with. Our photographer was a no-brainer. Genevieve Chapman of Miss Gen Photography had shot my sisters wedding and I knew I wanted her to shoot mine too. She's brilliant. We just sourced some fairy lights and decorations online and we were good to go! Flowers were just arranged the day before with a trip to New Covent Garden Flower market.

THE VENUE | Stoke Newington Town Hall and Cafe Oto in Dalston for the party.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Dress - Preen @ Selfridges, Vintage earrings borrowed from mum, shoes Chrissie Morris, Vintage coat belonging to my grandmother. Wedding and engagement rings designed and made by the lovely Sarah Burn at Gill Wing, Upper Street Islington.

FINDING THE DRESS | There wasn't really time to do big trips to the shops so I did lots of online research and then headed to Selfridges to try on and buy. I found the shoes online too and my hair slide from Etsy.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Blue suit with waistcoat, pocket handkerchief and vintage pocket watch from an online auction.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | We love the Andrews Sisters vintage style so formulated a playlist using this as inspiration. We found our reading online, from searching through some wedding blogs.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | We didn't have bridesmaids as were keeping things informal.

THE FLOWERS | Flowers sourced from New Covent Garden Flower Market and bouquet made at home by my lovely mum and auntie.

THE CAKE | The owners of our favourite coffee shop, Tina We Salute you made one of our cakes (a fun rainbow cake) and our lovely and talented friend made the other (a rich chocolate cake). We served them up for dessert.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Genevieve from Miss Gen Photography. She has a really unique style and is definitely different to other wedding photographers that you see. We had planned to have some pics before the ceremony so that we didn't have to break between the ceremony and the party... Gen had a really well planned shoot and whisked us out to some beautiful settings in Stoke Newington and we are so happy with the result. She has managed to incorporate the style of our wedding alongside the vibe of our local neighbourhood really creatively.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | Cafe Oto is a warehouse style venue and so we decked it out with more than 800 fairy lights and added some roses/candles in simple jam jars to give nice soft lighting to the venue. We didn't have formal seating and instead served hot canapes, followed by a hot buffet, which meant that people really circulated.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | I'd advise that you focus on throwing a fab party for as many of your favourite people as possible and not worry about the formalities that a wedding brings with it.

As long as there is good music, plenty of booze and good food - your family and friends will have a great time and as will you.
