Defense of Marriage Act plaintiff Edith Windsor and her late wife Thea Spyer's love story spanned more than 40 years. The pair was together up until Spyer's death in 2009.

On Thursday, Windsor told HuffPost Live's Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani that she stills feels her late wife's absence, even years after her death -- and not just on big days like when the Supreme Court ruled DOMA unconstitutional last June, but on regular days too.

"I constantly go looking to tell her something, if something exciting has happened," Windsor said. "I mean I literally walk into a room before I realize what I'm doing."

She also reminisced about her early days falling in love with Spyer: "I dug her. I thought she was great. I thought she was beautiful. I thought she was all kinds of things."
