Chic & Romantic Peach Wedding at The Royal Botanic Gardens | Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

Oh how I adore cherry blossom and a spring time affair. And to top it off when bride Dionne submitted her wedding to me she said; "I have followed WWW religiously since I started planning my wedding a couple of years ago, and to have my wedding featured on it is on my wedding to-do list! I swear it is, right under 'freeze dry bouquet' and just above 'Go on honeymoon' (yeah, I was a to-do list/spreadsheet kind of bride)." Which made my heart sing.

WWW readers Dionne and Ross held their wedding on the April 17 th 2014 at Cambridge Cottage, Royal Botanical Gardens in Kew Gardens. With a vision of a relaxed pretty and romantic day they chose the most delightful touches for their wedding. There were dreamy florals, whimsical peachy bridesmaid dresses and a sparkler exit.

Dionne looked stunning in her Ellis Bridal gown, while Ross donned a Marks and Spencer suit. LOVE.

Thanks so much to Stuart Anning for sharing his lovely photographs with us.

THE PROPOSAL | At the top of Belvedere Castle in Central Park, NYC. It was a COMPLETE surprise. We had been in Cape Cod for our good couple friend's wedding and had such a wonderful time, and as I used to live in New York we decided to spend a few days there before we headed back to London. Little did I know, Ross had been planning this romantic engagement for me and invited some of our closest friends to be there when he popped the question. He took me to the top of the castle in the middle of Central Park and got down on one knee! After saying yes he pointed down where our friends were wearing the popular 'I heart NY' T-shirts but they crossed out the NY and had written 'DH' (my initials) in a sharpie. So not only did we get engaged in one of the most amazing places in the world, but we were with some of best friends - I didn't think it could get any better, until we went diamond shopping the next day!

THE VISION | Romantic and pretty, but relaxed. It was also very important to us that our guests had a really good time. Not only did we want to create special and memories for ourselves, but we wanted our family and friends to look back and remember as a day filled with love, fun, laughter and prosecco!

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We, or should I say I, started planning immediately after we got engaged. I was so involved and excited that anyone would think I knew he was going to propose! (For the record, I didn't). I was working in events at the time, so I was familiar with quite a few venues all over London, but our budget was a lot more modest than many of the weddings that I had worked at, so it was about finding a venue that worked for our budget but fit in with our vision for the day, enter Kew Gardens. In total we had a year and a half to plan, so things didn't really start to take shape and get serious until the end of 2013 and then it was a steady stream of appointments, consultations, deliveries, and fittings. Then about a couple of months before, we started the DIY stage for the venue decorations. In hindsight, I wish I had started that six/seven months before, so that it was ready to go, instead I had all these last minute additions that I wanted on top of the stuff that I already wanted to do and it got a little overwhelming the week of the wedding.

BUDGET | We knew that we realistically couldn't bring it in for less than 10k, but we didn't want to go over 15k. Lets just say we somewhere in the middle, give or take a few pence!

THE VENUE | Cambridge Cottage, Royal Botanical Gardens

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Ellis Bridals 11330 Romance Collection 2013. Earrings and side tiara were a set from Blossom bridal accessories - Eaton earrings and Cambridge side tiara. Shoes were from Zara, wedding sash was ordered on Etsy.

FINDING THE DRESS | I only went to a handful of wedding boutiques before I found 'The One'. My wedding dress experience wasn't what I had expected. Meaning, it wasn't the Hollywood movie version that I was expecting. I didn't get champagne, there weren't plush chaise lounges to sit on and there wasn't soft dreamy music playing in the background. That was a shock, not to mention all the choices available - plus, the realisation that a lot of the pieces don't look and feel how you'd imagine them. Some gowns that look soft and light online actually feel harsh and feel heavy when you try them on and they're not always worth the hefty price tag - Vera Wang, I'm looking at you. I also thought I wanted something completely different to what I ended up falling in love with, so it's important to try on different styles and fabrics. I found my dress the second time I went shopping and fell in love. I might not have had that Hollywood shopping experience, but I did have that this-is-the-dress moment and I left like a movie star. I just knew that it was what I wanted the moment I stepped out of the dressing room and saw the look on my mum's face.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Groom's suit was from Marks & Spencer and we customised it with some brown leather buttons that we found online. I was worried that Ross wouldn't stand out from his best men as they were all wearing the exact same suit, but the custom buttons and the pocket watch that I gave him as his groom gift did the trick. They were small details, but they made a huge difference.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | I work in publishing so it was SO hard to narrow it down to just a couple of readings. In the end we went with Yes, I'll Marry You by Pam Ayres which was a fun rhyming couplet read by one of my bridesmaids. The second one was something inspired by AA Milne's The House at Pooh Corner. I actually came across this one whilst admiring a previous WWW and loved the sentiment and idea of using something from a children's story. It was really the whole 'If I live to be a hundred' line that got me. My brother is a singer and travels a lot singing for performers like Ellie Goulding to Michael Buble, so I had to book him pretty early in order to make sure he'd be able to sing at my wedding, because I wanted a various styles of music all mashed into one! He sang my mum and I down the aisle to Van Morrison's 'Crazy Love', then sang 'Kiss Me' by Sixpence none the richer when we were signing the register. The for the first dance we asked for a musical mash-up of sorts and asked him to merge 'Flower' by Amos Lee and an acoustic paired down rendition of Justin Timberlake's 'Mirrors'. When I told him what we wanted he went away with his guitarist and made it happen.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | For the morning we all wore custom kimono robes (a gift from my maid-of-honour) that were made in California by a designer she found on Etsy. I found their dresses online right at the beginning of the wedding planning process. I knew I wanted a pretty blush colour, either pink or peach, so when I stumbled across these I just ordered them straight away. There's something whimsical and romantic about a floor length flowy gown, which was why I went long instead of short for the girls. Plus, they could wear whatever shoes they wanted and then go barefoot on the dance floor and nobody would know! The belts were custom made in the Middle East.

THE FLOWERS | Violets and Velvet - I originally wanted pink peonies and white hydrangeas, but then I came across this beautiful bouquet of O Hara and Sarah Bernhardt roses pale pink peonies pink astilbe and fell in love with the mix of different flowers. It still had that blousy full look that I love about peonies, and I kept the colour theme with peach and pale pink flowers. She also added some jasmine, which smelled so wonderful. Whenever I smell Jasmine now I'll always think of my wedding day, which is lovely. Ross' buttonhole was a peony with a sprig of astilbe. The bridesmaids carried gypsophilia posies and the best men had pink astilbe buttonholes. The centrepieces where gypsophila in silver urns with votives of astilbe and peonies surrounding them to echo my bouquet and Ross' buttonhole.

THE CAKE | Ross' sister, Lindsay, is very talented and makes cakes for events in her spare time so when she agreed to make ours we were thrilled. We weren't keen on the traditional fruit cake as we love the simplicity, no fuss and deliciousness of a classic Victoria sandwich so that's what we had. Lindsay also made these fantastic pink sugar peonies to sit on the top of the cake and they looked so incredible some of guests thought they were real flowers.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | It's a listed Georgian building so there were restrictions with what we could hang so we concentrated on placing objects that meant something to us. In the entrance hall we had framed photos of us on the end tables, a beautiful monologue from Captain's Corelli's Mandolin that we printed and framed beside a wooden board with 'Our Love Story' printed on it, which Ross had made himself. We found a mini connect four with pink and red heart pieces that we put in a little nook by a fireplace for anyone who wanted a breather at any point in the evening and fancied playing a game. Our venue is a also a gallery, so there are beautiful framed illustrations of the flowers that are grown on the grounds of Kew Gardens, so we didn't have to dress the dining room, apart from the centre pieces. As our wedding fell on the Easter bank holiday weekend we decided on mini birds nests filled with chocolate mini eggs, which doubled up as name cards and wedding favours. This was a subtle nod to Easter without turning the day into a weird Easter bunny explosion. The floor to ceiling windows and French doors provided a beautiful backdrop of the private garden and the sun was shining, so light flooded into the rooms where we were married and during most of the dinner before the candles were lit and the pink and purple up-lighting saw us through and evening of dancing.

THE HONEYMOON | We're heading off to Santorini in Greece in June. It doesn't get better than pink and orange sunsets every night and dinners overlooking the Aegean sea.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Other than walking into the room and seeing Ross' smiling face looking back at me, it was definitely the sparkler send off that I'll remember forever. We weren't allowed confetti as our venue was a listed building, so I spent ages on pinterest looking for an alternative grand exit that we could have. I really wanted to recreate that Hollywood-esque moment as we waved goodbye to our guests and that moment really was exactly as I imagined it would be.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Make a list of what you want and what you really want, and then prioritise them. If you can't have everything then decide what's important, where you're going to put your money and what you can live without. I know it's hard, but try not to stress about the finer details, because although it might seem important, the day goes by like a whirlwind and you probably won't even notice those things on the day. Finally, ask for help! I tried to do too much myself and it added a mountain of extra stress.
