If you are planning a beach wedding, chances are you are wondering what to wear. After all, you have sun and sand and ocean breezes to contend with. And if you are traveling to your wedding locale, you also have to mess with lugging the monstrosity around the airport. So, skip the train and the taffeta and the headache. Right up front, my very favorite wedding dress in this bunch is the one above. Mainly because I don't think I would like it nearly as much at a more traditional venue. The illusion lace perfectly suits the casual, warm atmosphere for a beach wedding. And it would look stunning with a pair of wedge sandals (and heels are just a beach no-no).

As mentioned before, one thing to be aware of when you are shopping for a beach wedding dress is the climate. Especially if you are going to a tropical destination, you are going to want to avoid piles of tulle. Stick to simple silhouettes, with cotton lining to help stay cool. And if you decide to go sleeveless, make extra sure to load up on sunscreen. You don't want to be a tomato in your honeymoon photos.

Length is another feature to thoughtfully consider. With oceans come ocean breezes, and the last thing you want is a tragic wardrobe malfunction in front of the new in-laws. Avoid short and tea length dresses with full or a-line skirts. Instead, go for cocktail-style sheaths that hug you in at the knee a bit, or longer dresses with fabric that is a bit heavier. For example, I think it would take a hurricane to blow the skirt up on this halter dress (below). Rather than blow up, it will blow around, clinging to your legs (so, if you want to avoid that, go with a different silhouette).

This dress' tiers (above) would look so amazing moving around in the breeze, right? And when in doubt, it is always okay to go maxi for a beach wedding. The dress below is made of linen, ideal for facing the summer heat in style.

Perhaps your beach wedding isn't the tropical variety. Whether on the Northern California coast or the South Carolina shoreline, this lacy boho dress beautifully encapsulates the casual chic that accompanies a beach fete.
