Pretty Spring Yellow Wedding in York with a Mori Lee Lace Dress | Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

I thought the perfect way to start the week would be with a bright and beautiful yellow Spring wedding.

Alistair and Helen married on the 19 th April 2014 at Marmadukes Hotel, York. It was important to them that the day was fun and relaxing. There were some brilliant music choices and a lot of happy faces all day long.

I just adore the yellow Spring florals running through their wedding and Helen's super stunning lace Mori Lee gown. Simply divine.

Thanks so very much to SDS Photography for sharing their utterly lovely images today.

THE PROPOSAL | We were at home and as it was on the run up to Easter Al had put on a chocolate treasure hunt around the house. The last treasure was a red rose. Asking him what it was all about he said he has fibbed and had bought me one more present. With that he pulled out an engagement ring from his pocket.

THE VISION | We wanted it to be as fun and relaxing for everyone as possible. We were of course going to have the best day ever, but wanted our guests to enjoy it as much as we did and just make it a day to remember!

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We had about 12 months to plan and it all went pretty smoothly. At the start we didn't really know what we were wanting but once we chose the venue everything just came fairly easily.

THE VENUE | Marmadukes boutique hotel, York. It is such a fantastic place with lots of character which is what we fell in love with. It was the first place we visited. We looked at a few more around York but knew that Marmadukes was the place we wanted to get married.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | I bought the dress from Carlton Couture in Ripon and it is Mori Lee by Madeline Gardner. I had an Amada Wyatt hair comb.

FINDING THE DRESS | I hadn't got a clue what type of dress I wanted. When I first went shopping I went with an open mind and tried on lots of styles and shapes. I quickly decided which ones I liked and which ones I didn't. In one shop I found one which I loved but it was such a huge decision I went away to think about it. I went to Ripon with my mum and sister having had it recommended by a one of my mums friends. I tried on a few dresses and then the last one was the dress I loved from the other shop. Trying it on again sealed the deal and I knew it was the one I was going to get married in.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Al had his suit made by Moss Bros bespoke. He and his best man had a trip out and had a fantastic time getting measured for their suits. They were light grey lounge suits with a waistcoat. They both wore tan brogues and a yellow tie.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | Best friend Sarah Brown read Edward Monktons 'That still and settled place' and Al's brother Ian Lowson read 'Oh the places you'll go' by Dr Seuss. I walked down the aisle to Pachelbel's Canon in D, We have always liked that piece of music. We signed the register to Ben Howard 'only love' and Lewis Watson, 'Little Darling'. We then left the ceremony to Jackie Wilson, 'You're love keeps lifting me higher'.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | I had one very special bridesmaid, my twin sister Sarah.

THE FLOWERS | The flowers were by Allison at Alice and Rose Floral design. We met her at a wedding fayre in York and got chatting about the sorts of colours and flowers we were thinking. She entered us in her competition to win my bouquet and we won! She was a pleasure to work with and was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We wanted Spring flowers in yellows and whites with a bit of grey pussy willow to tie in the grey from the suits.

THE CAKE | I baked the three tiers of fruit cake myself with help from my sister and my mum. I didn't feel brave enough to try the icing and had a school friend to decorate it. She had done a wonderful job at my other friends wedding and knew she would do the same for us. We just wanted something fairly simple and topped off with fresh flowers.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Simon and Sarah-Jane from SDS Photography. A lovely couple who are obviously very passionate about photography. We are so pleased with how they captured the day.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | I made two paper garlands to hang in the windows either end of the ceremony room. I also used the bunting we made on my hen do to decorate areas of the venue. I wanted everything to tie together so designed and made the place names, table names, tags for favours and gift tags for the presents, they all matched the invites. The venue's character meant we didn't need a huge amount of décor to make the place look beautiful.

THE HONEYMOON | We went for 10 nights in St Lucia, which was absolute paradise. Just what we needed after a very busy few months. We relaxed, sun bathed, swapped stories about the day and enjoyed a rum or two!

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | It's impossible to describe all the memorable moments, we had such an amazing day. The bits that really stick out for Al are when we're having photos taken on the bench in the garden towards the evening, we were having loads of fun playing with confetti! Also, when he first turned round to see me walking down the aisle. For me it was the minute the door to the ceremony opened and I walked down the aisle, I couldn't wait to see Al and smiled all the way!

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Our advice would be to try and relax, you'll have more fun. Remember everyone is there for you and wants the day to go well. Try and take some time out when it is just the two of you even if it's just for a few minutes.
