Charming Homemade Pink & Blue Wedding

Charming Homemade Pink & Blue Wedding

Inflatable musical instrument playing and golf buggy fun? Yes it can only be time for WWW readers Jody and Ben's Saturday 3 rd May wedding held at Wentworth Castle Gardens.

They wanted their wedding day to be fun, informal and relaxed. With a pretty blue and pink colour palette, they hand crafted much of the rustic personal details themselves. I just adore the delightful bouquet, milk bottle drinks and the smiles all day long.

Jody looked so very beautiful in her Sharon Bowen dress with long veil while Ben looked dashing in a blue suit with statement glasses.

Thanks goes to the fabulous Lifeline Photography for sharing their wonderful photographs today.

THE PROPOSAL | It was Christmas Day morning, and we were opening presents together. We had finished opening presents, and Jody went into the kitchen to make breakfast. Ben called her back into the living room saying she had forgotten one present. When she went back into the living room Ben was on one knee with a ring in his hand! We spent the rest of the day celebrating with Jody's family in Sheffield and Ben's family in Nottingham (who all knew about it before Jody did!)

THE VISION | We wanted the day to be lots of fun, and very informal and relaxed. We have lots of friends and family from lots of different aspects of our lives, and just wanted a day where everyone felt like part of our family together.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We had 16 months to plan. We did all the preparations ourselves as we wanted it to be very personal and "very us". We made all our own invitations, decorations and sourced all our suppliers ourselves.

THE VENUE | We got married at St John's Church, Owlerton which is the church that Jody used to be the Children, Youth and Families Worker for. The reception was Wentworth Castle Gardens. It is on the same site as Northern College, which is where Ben and Jody first met, when Jody was running a training course which Ben was a participant on. Neither of them realised it was the same site until they went to look around after they got engaged.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Designed by Sharon Bowen. Accessories were from John Lewis.

FINDING THE DRESS | Bit of a nightmare to be honest!! I originally went to a shop in Sheffield and feel in love with the Sharon Bowen dress. I went for my fittings and was really in love with the dress. 7 weeks before I was due to get married our wedding insurance company called me to say that the shop had closed down. I was completely unaware of this and panicked! Ben then drove over to Sharon Bowen in Macclesfield, to see what could be done. Lovely Sharon and her team remade the dress for me, and looked after me. Definitely recommend them to anyone! My top tip to brides to be.... get wedding insurance!!

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Ben had a bespoke suit made by Moss (it's hard to find a good suit when you are 6ft 6!)

THE READINGS & MUSIC | The reading was 1 Corinthians 13 which was read by Abi Widdowson. She is the fiancé of Ben's best friend Dan (who was one of Ben's ushers). Abi and I have become best wedding planning friends throughout both our weddings.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | My sister Lynsey and my best friend Rachel were my bridesmaids. They both wore dresses from Dessy in a spa colour.

THE FLOWERS | Flowers were done by Sarah's florist in Hillsborough, Sheffield. They were a mixture of baby pink roses, peonies.

THE CAKE | Daniella from Ultimate Cakes made our cake. We had 50 cupcakes, 50 pushpops and a top tier of fruitcake. We had lemon meringue, chocolate fudge, vanilla sponge flavoured cupcakes and pushpops! Amazing!

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Hannah and Jen from Lifeline photography. They were absolutely amazing and would recommend them to everyone! We met Hannah at our photoshoot which we did at Wentworth. She was great fun and really relaxed. We didn't want the standard group photos, we wanted a story of our day, which they captured brilliantly. Our photos tell a story of what happened throughout the whole day.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | We did all our details and décor ourselves. We went for a vintage relaxed feel. Our colours were navy blue and duck egg / spa blue, with silver. We had lots of burlap runners, silver candelabra, jam jar lights, ladders and lavender for the table plan, tables named after our dearly departed grandparents, milk bottles to drink out of, scrabble boards and fingerprinting! We had bangers and mash for our meal and then a vintage fish and chip van in the evening.

THE HONEYMOON | We went to Maafushivaru in the Maldives for two weeks, booked through Kuoni. It was amazing. No shoes for two weeks, staying in a beach villa for a week and a water bungalow for a week, on an island that takes 6 minutes to walk around. We spent a night on Lonubo which is a deserted island. A chef made us an amazing meal, and then left us to watch the sunset on our own before staying the night on our own little island. Amazing experience!

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | The whole day was amazing. Waking up at 5am on the wedding morning to glorious sunshine, in my old bedroom at my parents house (which is now my 5 year old nephews room when he stays with grandma and grandad). Spending a few hours with my mum and dad before the busyness of the day. Walking down the aisle and seeing Ben for the first time. Playing inflatable instruments in church! Seeing family and friends who don't know each other, chatting and laughing together. Travelling in the VW camper van to our reception whilst our guests were travelling in a Vintage Double Decker! Dancing the night away to No Limits Street Band who we first saw at the Paralympics in London. Saying I do to my best friend, and then listening to his beautiful speech...whilst sobbing a lot (him...not me!) Eating fish and chips in the evening!

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Keep your wedding personal, and don't let other people sway your decision making.... it's all about you! Many people thought we were mad to have a VW camper van as our wedding car... but on the day... they loved it!!! Get wedding insurance...even if you think nothing with go wrong... it can! Spend a little bit more on your photographer... these are the memories of your day that you can look back on.
