Frizzy Hair Culprits You Never Saw Coming

Frizzy Hair Culprits You Never Saw Coming

via

You use shampoo and conditioner. You use a detangler solution and carefully comb with a wide-tooth comb. You've tried a slew of defrizzing products and your mop still looks like you stuck your finger in an electric socket. Before you completely lose hope in achieving a sleek, shiny mane, take a gander at these revelations about what really causes frizzy hair. You might be surprised and you might be guilty of one or two of these crimes!

1. Pillowcases
Frizz maintenance doesn't stop when you turn in for the night. Try sleeping on satin or silk pillowcases -- believe it or not, their slippery finishes don't grab, bend or break your hair as you toss around in your sleep -- as cotton and other fabrics tend to do. Additionally, they don't suck moisture out of your hair.

2. Diet
We know, we know. Four little letters that have a huge affect on our bodies and, you guessed it, our hair. If your diet lacks sufficient protein and essential vitamins, minerals and nutrients, it will result in dry frizzy-licious hair. Protein-rich foods supply your body -- and your tresses -- with keratin, which gives hair thickness, body, strength and elasticity. Adding vitamins A, B, C and E promotes hair growth, strength and moisture balance, and they also help to prevent thinning and hair loss.

3.Too Much Heat
Over-drying or heating your hair (whether with a blow dryer or hot iron) can give you a bad case of the frizzies, even if you're using the correct styling products. Never use maximum heat settings on your tools and learn when to walk away once the job is done!

4. Brushing
Brushing dry hair stretches it, which leads to breakage and frizziness. Towel-dry your hair after hopping out of the shower and detangle it with a brush, comb or your fingers. Add a little conditioner, anti-frizz solution or detangler and let it air dry the rest of the way.

5. Bare Locks
With all the frizz-causing elements (humidity, heat, etc) working against you, your hair needs to be able to put up a fight. Even just a spritz or a dab of the right styling product can make a big difference in protecting your hair from looking like the bride of Frankenstein. So unless you're wanting that dried out, frizzy look, don't overlook this step before you head out for the day.
