Peach And Pistachio In Kentish Heaven.

Peach And Pistachio In Kentish Heaven.

Oh we have a little bit of Kentish heaven on the blog for you this morning in the form of Pauline and Jon's big day. I can promise you peaches and pistachio and a healthy dose of girly vintage glamour.

This sweet twosome married at the romantically named Beacon House in Whitstable before departing in an awesome Morris Minor to their favourite restaurant The Good's Shed where they hosted their rustic wedding reception. Honestly it is so different but in such an amazing way; I really am very much in awe.

I'm also lusting after Pauline's green heart-shaped wedding shoes courtesy of Vivienne Westwood, the perfect accessory to Pauline's beautiful garden rose, wax flower and eucalyptus hairpiece. It is SO pretty!

And then there's the croquembouche which is utterly AWESOME. You need to pin it right away...

Pauline The Bride: When planning the wedding I was set on a simple, fifties-style short wedding dress which would be practical for a beach-side wedding. Cue dress shopping and I fell in love with a huge princess dress (exactly the opposite of what I thought I wanted!). It was the first dress I tried on and despite trying on twenty different ones, it was love at first dress! This dress liberated my inner Disney-princess, I love the lace, the cut-out back and the petticoats - and when else do you ever get to wear such a dress!

It was a slight challenge fitting into the back of a Morris Minor with my petticoats though... resulting in the unconventional approach of me in the front and my dad and sister in the back! As it's a full-on dress, I went for minimal jewellery and borrowed some vintage pearl earrings from my mother. I love flowers in my hair so the wedding was the perfect excuse to indulge with lots of big roses (and many, many pins to keep them in place - thanks to my hubbie Jon for helping me take them out after the wedding - it was an epic task!)

As for shoes I wanted some green shoes that I could wear again.... however, it seems that green shoes are not in fashion as after months of searching I hadn't found any I liked. I finally found these gorgeous Vivienne Westwood ones and they even smell of bubblegum!

Our wedding was a small, bohemian affair - no formal speeches, no first dance and no morning suits! Jon wanted a suit he could keep and wear again so we chose a light, summery linen to reflect the informal beach-side venue (plus stone coloured suits suit absolutely everyone!)

Whitstable is such a special place for us and is the perfect place to fall in love. I grew up in Kent and we had some amazing dates here and fell in love whilst watching the sunset on the beach. Beacon House is beautiful and full of soul and character. It has the most stunning beach views and a beautiful garden with lots of quirky features including a meadow; the perfect venue for a low key, bohemian wedding. We visited it for the first time on a freezing, stormy, November day and it was cosy and perfect even then!

As a Kentish girl, I was really inspired by the local produce on offer at "The Good's Shed" (our reception venue in a local Farmer's market). Our venue is a lively farmer's market in a beautiful old building full of rustic brickwork, beautifully worn wood and vintage furniture. The market is filled with local produce, vegetables, bottles, preserves and cheeses galore! This gave us the idea for an English country garden style in natural shades of peach and pistachio green. Anna and Rafael from the Good's Shed did an absolutely wonderful job of decorating the restaurant with our messy jam jar flower arrangements, lots of mis-matched candles, green, linen table runners and lots of bunting.

Our floral 'brief' was for lots of messy, informal, seasonal blooms in shades of peach, cream and pistachio flowers. The venues were decorated with lovely informal, flowers and jam jar arrangements and these worked perfectly in the rustic setting. In keeping with the Farmer's Market we named our tables after herbs and labelled the tables with a pot of herbs which we have planted in our garden as a lasting memory!

We didn't want matching outfits as we wanted a very informal wedding with mis-matched style so everyone chose their own outfits in shades of peach for the girls and stone and pistachio green for the boys.

We chose the unconventional start time of 5pm to get the best light on the coast (Whistable has the best sunsets!) The ceremony was conducted by the fantastic and lovely Sue & Julie from A Kentish Ceremony. We chose some readings to celebrate love and nature. My sister Olivia beautifully read, (despite some tears!) "A Birthday" by Christina Rosetti and my father in law Glyn read "I carry your heart with me (I carry it in) by E.E.Cummings. Against all odds I didn't cry although I got a mouthful of confetti on the way to the wedding car! We toasted our wedding with some pink champagne and French champagne biscuits (you dip them in the champagne - it's amazing!) We then had a magical journey to the reception in Canterbury with the top-down in a convertible Morris Minor and our guests also travelled in style on the bluebird retro bus!

We are big fans of folk music (who doesn't love a jig to some fiddle music?!) so we chose local band Camine who entertained us beautifully during our epic wedding banquet!

We are big foodies and so chose to have an epic nine course banquet at our favourite restaurant, The Good's Shed where we feasted on local Kentish produce, wild fish, Kentish ranger chicken, English cheeses, raspberry and strawberry mess and berry sorbet. As I am half French, we finished it all off with a traditional French croquembouche, flavoured with cointreau - yum! For our favours, my mother managed to find some traditional French sugared almonds in shades of orange and Pistachio green - perfect colour coordination!

We chose Kari Bellamy as we absolutely love the way she uses the natural light to create stunning and romantic photos. Neither of us feels comfortable posing for the camera so we were big fans of how Kari captures everything so naturally. Kari also has amazing tricks up her sleeve for rainy wedding days (although we were super lucky with the sun and didn't need them!)

Every wedding is so different and for us, our small wedding, free of traditional wedding conventions was exactly what we wanted and took the pressure off so we could enjoy the day!
