WWW readers Jen and Tommy chose to marry on the 10 ^th May 2014 at Errol Park, Perthshire. They envisioned a personal, relaxed, homemade and fun wedding day. Sounds perfect to me :-)

There were oodles of pretty origami cranes, colourful confetti, beautiful flower arrangements, a cake bake off and pie and mash meal. YUM. Oh and I love "Team Wedding"; be sure to read all in the report.

Jen looked super beautiful in her swishy Flossy & Dossy dress which she teamed with Irregular Choice shoes, while Tommy looked dashing in a three piece suit with pocket watch. So much style.

THE PROPOSAL | Tommy surprised me with a trip to the Therme in Vals, Switzerland, a place we visited and both fell in love with while studying architecture at university. Despite having talked about engagement rings, I didn't suspect a thing - I was just overwhelmed by the excitement of a surprise holiday! The actual proposal was on our final night in the outdoor pool of the spa, surrounded by snow covered mountains and stars. It was during the silent bathing after midnight, so after showing me the ring, all I could do was nod my head in acceptance - there may have been a slight squeal of excitement too!

THE VISION | We knew from the outset that we didn't want anything overly traditional or formal. We wanted the day to be quite personal to the both of us, and as plans progressed, we realised that meant that we wanted it to be fairly relaxed, with lots of handmade elements, and most importantly, lots of fun!

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We spent what seemed like forever looking for our venue. We wanted somewhere where we could do our own thing, and that was a wee bit different. Initially, we were inspired by our favourite festival - End of the Road - and we'd looked at hiring a tipi and finding some woodland to set it up. Unfortunately, the costs were a bit over budget, so we continued on our hunt, looking at a few barn and stable venues around Scotland. All were too small or too big, but they did help us decide what we wanted - somewhere fairly rustic, with plenty of outdoor space, just on the off chance that we got a sunny day! After 7 months, when we were close to settling for somewhere less than ideal, we stumbled across the relatively unknown Errol Park in Perthshire through a forum post, and after a visit, we knew we had a winner. We set the date, and then done very little for the next year! We had thankfully discovered the Glasgow Wedding Collective, which made our planning fairly easy. Through the GWC we found our photographer and dj, both of whom we booked right after confirming a date, and we later found my dressmaker, hair stylist and florist.

THE VENUE | When we first visited Errol Park, we instantly fell in love with the buildings and surroundings. Jamie, the owner, showed us around the stables and house, then left us to our own devices to explore the gardens. We were smitten. It was everything we wanted - a rustic converted stable block, amazing gardens and views, a grand house (as a rainy day back up/accommodation), and the loveliest owners who were happy for us to do whatever we wanted... We couldn't believe our luck!

We had access to the venue the week before the big day to set up, and we stayed in the house the night before the wedding with a few close friends - it was the perfect way to relax and look forward to the excitement of the next day.

We had hoped to have an outdoor ceremony on the lawns, with dinner and reception being held in the stables, however weather uncertainty (it was supposed to rain heavily all day), meant that we held the ceremony in the house, which was the best possible Plan-B anyone could wish for. We were able to head outdoors afterwards for drinks and canapés, and handily the sun came out just in time for photographs. We had our dinner in the 1 ^st floor of the stable block, and then headed downstairs to dance the night away.

In the end, it was quite nice to have the ceremony in the house, as it made each part of the day feel slightly different. It also meant that our guests got to explore a bit more of the venue, and almost everyone commented on how amazing it was - we had definitely found something special!

As much as we loved Errol Park itself, it wouldn't have been quite the same if it hadn't been for the owner (Jamie) and event manager ('the other' Jamie). They couldn't have been more helpful, and seemed as excited by everything as we were. Their relaxed attitude and friendly demeanour meant that we felt completely at home, and even before the big day arrived, they both felt like good friends.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | My dress was handmade by Flossy and Dossy in Glasgow. My shoes were by Irregular Choice, and my hairpiece was by Jon Richard. My birdcage veil was simply some netting from a local fabric shop - my hair stylist (Gillian of Pin Up Hair) worked her magic on it in the morning!

FINDING THE DRESS | I knew that I wanted my dress to be fun and 'twirly', as that's what I'd normally look for in a dress - I didn't want something that I felt uncomfortable or restricted in. I found Wendy at Flossy and Dossy through the Glasgow Wedding Collective, and she immediately understood what I was looking for. Specialising in hand made vintage style dresses, we chatted through the design and after a few fittings, I had my dress - exactly as I imagined! It was great to see the full process, from sketches, to lace samples and mock ups, to the final product, and although I can imagine how it can be daunting to not know exactly how it will look from the beginning, I had complete trust in Wendy, so was never concerned. Oddly, my dress was one of the few things I didn't worry about!

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Tommy wore a navy, 3 piece suite from Charles Tyrwhitt. Finding the right style of suit proved rather difficult, and it took many months of hunting in Glasgow and Edinburgh before we found what we were looking for - it was definitely worth it though! The tie hunt followed, and Tommy now has quite an eclectic selection, from bold 70's prints to polka dots. The plain green tie ended up being the winner, and worked perfectly with the bright flowers on the day.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | During the ceremony we had 2 readings, a passage from In Praise Of Love by Alain Badiou, and an excerpt from the Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams. The latter had most of our guests, as well as our friend Kelly who was reading it, in tears - emotions were clearly ruining high!

Music means a lot to us, and we initially looked at hiring a band to play in the evening. We soon realised that no band would be able to play all our favourite songs, so quickly changed our mind and looked at DJ's. We discovered the Pin Up Nights through the Glasgow Wedding Collective, and I'm so glad we did - they clearly knew how to keep people on the dance floor, so much so that we skipped the ceilidh section we'd had planned - everyone was enjoying themselves too much!

Our first dance was Micah P. Hinson's We Won't Have To Be Lonesome, and we finished with Bon Jovi's Livin' On a Prayer.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | We didn't have a traditional bridal party. Rather than have bridesmaids, a best man and ushers, we had 'Team Wedding', made up of our best (and most trusted!) friends. Everyone helped us out one way or another, from being witnesses, to doing readings and speeches, to making sure everyone was in the right place at the right time. The majority of Team Wedding also stayed with us in the house afterwards, and it was great to wake up the next day and have breakfast with our closest friends. Even although some were a little worse for wear, being served breakfast in the amazingly grand dining room of Errol Park soon sorted everyone out!

THE FLOWERS | We had originally thought we could do the flowers ourselves, and early in our engagement, began collecting jars for use as vases (and candle holders, and anything else we could possibly think of!). As the big day drew closer, we realised that we'd have quite a lot to do in the weeks before, and quickly decided that hiring a florist would make life much easier! We got in touch with Lisa at Sparrow and Rose, again discovered through the Glasgow Wedding Collective, and despite our very vague requirements (bright and a bit wild), and our request that she used the hundreds of jars that we'd collected, she managed to give us exactly what we were looking for, and they looked better than we could ever have dreamed - Lisa clearly knew us better than we knew ourselves! As well as my bouquet, Tommy's buttonhole and the table flowers, we also had buttonholes and corsages for the Team Wedding guys and girls.

THE CAKE | We didn't have a traditional wedding cake. 'Cutting the cake' didn't really mean anything to us as traditions go, but we DO love cake, so decided to incorporate it in a different way - we invited all out guests to enter in the Great Wedding Bake Off, and we were overwhelmed with the response! We had collected cake stands form charity shops and ebay, but had no idea how many cakes would be entered - we would only find out on the day. We could have had 90 or none, and it had the potential for disaster, but thanks to our lovely (and very generous!) family and friends, as well as Team Wedding and the caterers who helped collect and arrange the cake table on the morning, it couldn't have been more of a success.

We nipped upstairs to judge the cakes with our photographers before dinner, and prizes and rosettes were handed out during the speeches to 3 runners up and the overall winner. The winning cake (an amazing 3 tiered number by Tommy's niece Hollie) was also crowned the 'wedding cake' with some mini Just Married bunting. Everyone then got to tuck into them after dinner, and again during the evening buffet, and again in the morning - we even took some away on our honeymoon - none went to waste!

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | We both love photography, and alongside the venue, it was high on our priority list. We fell in love with Christopher Currie's work at a Glasgow Wedding Collective Fair, and after a quick chat with them, we knew they were the ones for us! We booked them, and a few months before the wedding, got in touch for our Engagement Shoot (which can be found here ). The fact that Chris and Gillian were happy to clamber over walls and under fences to get into an abandoned factory with us only confirmed that we'd made the right choice, and by the end of the shoot, we were completely comfortable having our photograph taken (something we both typically avoid!), and they both felt like long lost friends. On the day itself they were both stars. When they weren't helping us out with little things (the boys might not have managed their buttonholes without Gillian!) or doing our posed shoots, they were almost invisible - they captured some amazing shots when we didn't even realise they were in the vicinity! Their relaxed style and friendly approach was exactly what we wanted - most of our guests presumed they were our friends, and as they left at night, it truly felt like they were. We were both rather sad to see them go!

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | Where to begin!? We wanted as much DIY as possible, both to make the day more personal, and to keep the budget down.

We made our own save the dates and invites which were in keeping with the 'rustic' feel of the day -brown kraft postcards with a black silhouette of the stable tower amongst the trees, all tied together with brown twine.

We hand stamped everyone's name tag for the table settings, and loved the fact that a few folk decided to wear their tags for the rest of the evening! We spent a long time deciding on 14 table names... In the end, we discovered that Mr Benn (the kids tv show, loved by Tommy) had 14 episodes, and the decision was made!

We knew we wanted some sort of decoration upstairs in the stables - it's an amazing curved space, but has quite low ceilings, so we looked at something we could hang over the tables. Inspired again by the End of The Road festival, we set about making colourful origami cranes. We ended up with 300, most of which were tied on fishing line above tables, the rest were dotted around downstairs. We loved that people took the loose ones away with them at night, and that lots of other people asked for the hanging ones - they now hang in quite a few homes!

We originally thought about making napkins for everyone using recycled fabric that we'd collected, however after attempting a few, it was clear that my lack of sewing skills made it quite an ambitious task. Instead, the fabric became bunting which we used to decorate the stables with. We did managed to make a reasonable amount of them on our own, but as other things took over, Tommy's mum stepped in and saved the day by making more and finishing them off.

Food wise, we were again inspired by one out favourite EOTR festival meals - pie and mash. Nothing tastes better after a few drinks, so we thought it would be ideal! We found the Wee Pie Company who specialise in artisan wild game pies, and who happen to be based 2 minutes from the venue. We soon found a catering company based on Perthshire who were happy to use the Wee Pie Company pies (despite being a fantastic butchers themselves!), and took it from there. Gourlay Catering were fantastic on the run up to and during the day itself, and couldn't have been more helpful, despite our constantly changing numbers and last minute requests.

THE HONEYMOON | We hope to go to Japan on our honeymoon next year, but as that still requires a bit of saving, we opted for somewhere closer to home for the week after the wedding. After a hectic few weeks, we were torn between heading somewhere that we could be waited on hand and foot, or somewhere that had no one for miles around... We opted for the latter, and headed to a log cabin in the woods in Diabaig, a small town on the west coast of Scotland. It was perfect!

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | The whole day was so fantastic, so it's unbelievably difficult to pick just a few moments. If I had to pick, it would probably be....

Walking down the stairs for the ceremony to see all our friends and family in standing at the bottom, and a clearly emotional Tommy on the landing.

Stealing a few moments alone after the ceremony, and then heading out onto the lawns to see everyone ready for the confetti throw, which was an unbelievable amount of fun!

Clambering through the woods in my dress for some photographs, avoiding nettles and making sure I didn't fall over! I couldn't stop laughing, and love the shots Chris and Gillian got as we wandered around.

The last dance. Everyone jumping around us and singing their hearts out to one of my favourite songs was quite something!

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Our main piece of advice would be to do your own thing. If a tradition didn't mean anything to us, we left it out, or altered it to suit. We knew we didn't want to pick a best man or chief bridesmaid, as we have lots friends who mean a lot to us, so we made sure they all got to play a big part in our day, which meant more to us (and them I presume!) than a title on the day. We had no traditional wedding cake, and pie & mash might not be your standard wedding dinner, but our alternative choices made the day more personal to us, and we had nothing but great comments from our guests about it afterwards, despite there being a few raised eyebrows when we first mentioned our plans!

On the day, just enjoy yourself. We had worried about so many things on the run up - the weather, the bake-off, the guests catching buses, but in the end, it was all out with our control, so we didn't give any of it a second thought on the day. There were a few hiccups, but none were major, no one else noticed, and we just carried on having fun!
