Pretty Perfect Events is once again sharing more wedding advice with us today. As part of a whole sequel of write ups to come, she is today touching on a very interesting topic, who pays for what! A very touchy yet important subject of discussion, see what she has to say.

Who pays for what?

This week we're touching on that awkward topic that makes most people cringe - money and who pays for what at a wedding. It is essential that this conversation is had upfront before the wedding planning begins, so that everyone is on the same page and the expectations are clear.

The plain truth is that you can split (or not split) the wedding costs however you please. There are no rules that are set in stone as to who foots which bill on your special day. Some couples pay for their own weddings, whilst in other families the bride's parents pay for the celebration. The options are endless, and it's up to you and your families to come to an agreement on who will be paying for what elements on this big day.

That being said, have you ever heard your parents talk about traditional elements the groom and bride's families used to pay for? My father to this day still talks about how he got the best band he could afford and paid them in cash to play a little longer as everyone was having such a good time. Sound familiar? That's because guidelines do exist out there if you intend to share the cost on traditional items. We've created a list below on traditional elements and how the responsibilities are split. Please remember this is merely a guideline and you are free to do whatever suits both you and your families. You might like your bridesmaids to contribute to their own dresses or decide that you will have a cash bar - tailor it to what suits you.
