The Bride Diaries. Kirsty's Pastel Homemade Walled Garden Wedding Part 1

It's time to share today the wedding of resident WWW real bride Kirsty. We have followed Kirsty's planning journey for a whole year and now I am over the moon to share her beautiful wedding day :-)

Kirsty and Steve tied the knot on the 7th June 2014 at The Walled Garden, Cowdray. They envisioned a personal wedding day; with a focus on their marriage, picking meaningful readings and music.

The bridesmaids looked so beautiful in mismatched pastel frocks and Kirsty looked amazing! She donned a Lou Lou Bridal tea length dress with lace appliqué double layered veil and Jenny Packham for Debenhams heels. I am so excited to share their reception with you this afternoon. Ekk.

Thanks so very much to the amazing Sue Kwiatkowska for sharing her photographs with us today.

THE PROPOSAL | Steve proposed to me in Amsterdam whilst we were on our way to Anne Frank's house January 2013! It was really quiet about and were walking over a snowy bridge, we were a bit lost so I got the map out to have a look where we were and then looked up and Steve was on his knee asking if I'll marry him! I was so shocked I just started laughing leaving him hanging waiting for me to say yes. We celebrated in this strange pub drinking cider at 10:30am, defiantly not something we'll forget!

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | I got my dress from a wedding boutique in Chichester, only the second shop I went in! I had a pretty clear idea about what I wanted but wanted to try some longer dresses to make sure it definitely was. My dress was a tea length Lou Lou dress and I had a lace appliqué double layered veil, I felt so happy and comfortable in it all day. I bought my shoes before my dress from Jenny Packham at Debenhams, I saw them early on in the planning and knew they were just perfect and not too high!

I made a lace hair piece to go in my hair using some appliqué I got on holiday in Malta and attaching it to a plain ivory hairband but wrapping brown ribbon around it so it wouldn't show. Grace Benson did an amazing job with my hair and make-up, I felt so happy as I still looked like me, just better!

THE VISION | We wanted to encompass both of our personalities into the wedding as Steve was really keen to help out and I didn't want to look back and see nothing of 'him' in the wedding. I like the rustic, vintage and handmade and Steve likes James Bond! We managed to combine both ideas by using vintage James Bond film postcards for our seating plan and Steve came up with the idea of having some James Bond 'kits' for everyone to play with at the tables. After choosing our walled garden venue all the other ideas we had with a handmade and vintage feel just fell into place.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We didn't find the planning process too stressful even with me starting my own business at the same time! We had around 18 months and got most things booked in the first few months so it was just down to me to use the remaining months to make as much as possible! It never felt too overwhelming as I loved having an excuse to buy old tins from the car boot and make random thing! It's great as I have been able to use what I created and learnt for the wedding in my new business venue offering handmade wedding workshops and prop hire ( www.makedoandtrend.co.uk) so I haven't had the 'post-wedding blues'.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | I had two chief bridesmaids, who are my twin cousins but we're more like sisters, and Steve's sisters as my bridesmaids. I've had a vision for as long as I can remember that my bridesmaids one day would be in different coloured dresses and as they were up for it too! We had the colours pink, lilac, mink and a bluey lilac colour and I had them made in China and was so impressed with them. They all looked stunning and were so amazing in the build up and on the day itself!

THE VENUE | We got married at The Walled Garden, Cowdray and were so lucky with the weather as there was a spectacular thunderstorm in the morning which cleared by the time I made it to the venue. I had no back-up plan for all the things we had planned in the garden!

THE READINGS & MUSIC | I walked down the aisle with my dad and bridesmaids to 'Sweet Disposition', a song Steve and I both love and even to this day makes me tear up when I hear it on the radio!

One of my chief bridesmaids started off with the reading 'On Your Wedding Day' which was a lovely start to the ceremony and our married lives together. After we exchanged vows, our friends (we met at their wedding!) read 'Marriage Is...' which was good guidance for us newlyweds.

Finally, Steve's friend read 'Maybe' which was a really humbling reading about our future life together and not just about the wedding day. We never wanted the start of our marriage to be all about the wedding so we really thought about the readings that meant a lot to us.
