Wedding Dress Trend 2014: Shoulder and Neckline Accents

Among the many trending wedding dress details of the moment are accents around the shoulder and neckline. With gorgeous beading, delicate flutter sleeves, floral appliques, or modern improvisations on the bolero jacket, these wedding dresses will inspire you!

Above, these straps turn into swaths of beading running along the wide shoulder straps and down a statement back. For those brides that are bustier, dresses with detailed and wider straps give you more options for the foundation garments under your gown (because pretty can also be practical). Like the dress above, this wedding gown below features most of its beaded detailing solely in the shoulders (partially because of the more complicated silhouette towards the bottom of the wedding dress).

We love the merging of trends, and this dress (above, left) marries an illusion neckline with shoulder details running along its sheer cap sleeves. Above (right), this sweetly icy wedding dress features creeping shoulder details towards the neckline, creating a unique design.

If you want to really accent your shoulders and have a longer sleeve than a cap sleeve, try flutter sleeves (below). They give you more coverage, but also allow for more movement and interesting texture.

Above, here are two different versions of full shoulder coverage without much sleeve. Left, this dress features embroidered lace sleeves and waist accents as the only beading on the gown. Right, this slinky gown has jeweled patterns on the tops of the shoulders falling into a cowl back.

Below, another sleeve option is a shawl style (either as a part of the gown, or in a detachable "jacket") sleeve covered in beaded embroidery throughout the shoulders and back.

Lately we've seen the emergence of a new version of the bolero jacket (which is a stretch because some of these seem more closely related to a bib necklace than a shrug). Regardless of what you call them, these designs are pretty darn fantastic. Below (left), this elaborately beaded bolero is a combination of Art Deco and futuristic style, showcasing the shoulders with a padded, circular design.

Can't choose between a boatneck and a sweetheart neckline? This bolero (below, right) gives you both, and plenty of beaded shoulder accents to boot.

Love the angelic romance of vintage-inspired designs? We are crazy for this lacy bolero (below, left) and fluffy wrap draped across one shoulder (below, right). Both are elegant and sophisticated, and just the right amount of over-the-top for a wedding look.
