DIY Outdoors Woodland Hessian Filled Wedding

DIY Outdoors Woodland Hessian Filled Wedding

via

My dream is to marry in the woods and so you can imagine my excitement at sharing today's real wedding.

Sarah and Colin tied the knot on the 31st May 2014 in Crombie Country Park in the beautiful woodland. They wanted a total DIY wedding; transforming their village hall venue with an indoor marquee and hessian details galore. It looked amazing!

Sarah looked so stunning in a lace Maggie Sottero gown with pretty flower crown and shiny wavy locks. Colin went for a kilt and converse combo while the maids looked gorgeous in green. Oh so beautiful.

Thanks goes to the ever wonderful Photography by Vicki for sharing her imagery today.

THE PROPOSAL | New York - Central Park. Colin proposed with a wooden hand carved ring.

THE VISION | To get married outside on the grass under a wooden arch! Then to be surrounded by only our closest family and friends! It was and was supposed to be a totally DIY wedding, helped made with loving friends and family. For it to feel relaxed and become part of its surroundings. Finished of with a beer and a BBQ.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | 18 months of hard work. But with a manager and a Designer what could go wrong? ;)

BUDGET | £8,000

THE VENUE | Crombie Country Park, Angus , Scotland

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Dress was by Maggie Sorterro at Emma Roy - Edinburgh. Flower crown - Etsy.

FINDING THE DRESS | An absolute nightmare!!! The most stressful part of the whole thing, the pressure to find "the" dress is too much. When I finally found the dress I burst into tears, not just because I loved it. More due to relief.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Designed by the groom & Howie at by 21st Century Kilts. Sporran designed by groom, his inspiration was the first gift from me, a wallet with a chain. Very punk rock! Lol

THE READINGS & MUSIC | We had a humanist wedding, written completely by us. We designed the ceremony and wrote our vows, which we answered each vow together "we will".

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Sheena Dickinson, Laura Parker, Claire Dawson & Nicola Dawson.

THE FLOWERS | The main flowers were gyp, small rustic bouquets for the bridesmaids. My bouquet was designed by the lovely Irene at Ferriers Florist - Arbroath, my vision was as if I had run through a meadow and grabbed everything around me! It was stunning and one of a kind.

THE CAKE | Designed and made by the inspirational creative genius that is Mhairi Wild, each cake was a stage our our relationship.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | The fabulous Vicki White, who captured our day exactly the way we wanted! Thank You!

THE DETAILS & DECOR | Hessian, hessian & more hessian!!!! We pretty made everything by hand, 12 table runners, 52 chair ties, 1 wooden arch, built a tent/marquee inside the village hall out of hessian, 52 favours of homemade jam - by grannie Burness. Rustic, DIY, country, rough, summer, outside inside.

THE HONEYMOON | Mini moon - 3 days in Scotland - Edinburgh , Perth & Glen Doll. Proper honeymoon - Kas Turkey.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | The whole day was completely what we wanted - a dream come true. Then at 9:30pm standing back and looking at all our friends and family having a good time. Knowing they enjoyed it as much as we did, made it!!

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Take your time, we were planning for 18 months. Have the wedding you want, even if you think it's not possible. DIY as much as you can, let friends and family help. Don't stress on the day, it's over in a flash! Just smile :)
