Stylish Fun & Relaxed Bow Ties & Braces Wedding

Stylish Fun & Relaxed Bow Ties & Braces Wedding

via

To finish off the week in style I have one more wonderful wedding to share :-)

Jenn and Adam married on the 5 th April 2014 holding their reception at the White Horse Hotel in Hertfordshire. They envisioned a relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere where guests could enjoy themselves.

This fashion forward couple chose the most amazing attire, with the boys donning bow ties and braces while Jenn looked incredible in her Charlie Brear gown. I just love the baby breath bouquets, graphic stationery and the dramatic portraits.

Huge thanks goes to the wonderful Miki Photography for sharing these photographs with us today.

THE PROPOSAL | Adam and I travelled to Venice in December to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. After spending the day exploring Venice's historic old streets, we ventured out for dinner and cocktails. Wondering back to our hotel over the Ponte Dell' Accademia with its wonderful views of the Grand Canal, Adam took me by complete surprise by dropping to one knee and asking if I would marry him. Perfect!

THE VISION | It was really important to us that the day felt relaxed so we and all our guests could just enjoy ourselves. Almost every decision we made, from choosing the venues, to the language we used on our wedding website was designed to create a fun / unpretentious atmosphere.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We started the planning process by discussing budget with our families. Once this has been decided, Adam and I each choose our top priorities - mine was the wedding rings and chapel, Adam's was the photographer and honeymoon - these were the items where we would spare no expense. After this, I set an itemised budget for the entire wedding - and somehow we actually managed to stick to it!

BUDGET | £15k (£21k including honeymoon)

THE VENUE | We both wanted each venue to be special to us.

St George's VA School Chapel, Harpenden Hertfordshire

Adam and I met at school and many of our guests were friends we made there - so the chapel on the school grounds seemed the perfect choice for the service. The chaplain that married us was the same teacher that used to take the services when we were pupils.

White Horse Hotel, Hertingfordbury Hertfordshire

For the reception we choose the 15th century Georgian White Horse Hotel in Hertingfordbury. It has been the sight of many family occasions and is a very special place for us.

It has a very laid back, country pub atmosphere, rooms for the guests to stay, and a 24 hour bar - perfect for us!

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Dress - Charlie Brear. Paired with a vintage brooch which belonged to my mum. Veil - Pronovias (borrowed from my sister in law). Shoes - Carvela Kurt Geiger.

FINDING THE DRESS | The dress was very hard to find, I was looking for 11 months! I wanted something very simple and elegant which was surprisingly hard to find. I was very close to buying a Jenny Packham design, but saw my dress in Charlie Brear and fell in love. It wasn't overly fussy and was easy to wear, the perfect choice for me.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | As Adam wasn't going for top and tails, he was looking for an alternative way to differentiate himself and the grooms party. The bow tie and braces were a little touch that separated them from the rest of the wedding guests.

Suit and shirt - Tiger of Sweden. Bow Tie - Dancys. Shoes - Grenson.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | We choose Corinthians 13 1-13 as one of our readings due to a sentimental connection - my parents and brother both had this at their wedding.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Debut Debenhams for three of the grown up bridesmaids. Monsoon for the flower girls.

One of my sisters wouldn't have felt comfortable in a dress, so I found her a Phase Eight top and trousers to match the bridesmaids.

THE FLOWERS | Adam is allergic to flowers so this was a bit of a challenge.

For my bouquet, we used wild flowers with little pollen accompanied with gypsophila.

For the chapel and centrepieces, we decorated with ivy, jasmine and lots of candles. It was beautiful.

THE CAKE | All our cakes were kindly made for us by talented friends and family as wedding gifts for us. We went for pink cupcakes and a sponge top tier.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Miki - a very talented chap who after meeting we knew would just got so well with everyone - we even sat him with our guests! The photos are amazing and a fantastic reminder of a special day.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | Adam is a designer so we put a lot of thought into the look and feel for the day. We created logos, stickers, menus, table plans, place names, sign posts, order of services and a website. We wanted a consistent theme throughout.

THE HONEYMOON | The day after the wedding we relaxed at Pennyhill Park Spa before jetting off to Costa Rica for two weeks. It's a beautiful country with an amazing, varied landscape and lots of wildlife. We stayed in a treetop lodge in the rainforest, before travelling to the hot springs at the base of a volcano and then moving onto a luxurious all-inclusive beach resort.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | During the best man's speech, our 2 year old niece loudly announced a potty training emergency. Ever the professional he made a joke of the situation as she was whisked off by her mum in the nick of time!

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Design the day you want, rather than the one you think/get told you should have. And enjoy yourself! It only happens once and the days goes by so quickly; soak it all in.
