Green & Pink Relaxed Travel Inspired Pub Marquee Garden Wedding

via

Laura and James were married on the 2 nd August 2014, hosting their reception in a pub garden in Hertfordshire. Their marquee was decked out in the prettiest green and pink details, with lanterns and travel inspired stationery too.

I adore the muted green glam bridesmaid frocks against the fluffy pink bouquets and the big smiles all day long.

Laura was so very elegant in her flowing JLM Couture gown with long veil while groom James wore a blue Next suit. Gorgeous.

Thanks so very much to Zoetrope Photography for providing the lovely imagery today.

THE PROPOSAL | We were away travelling for 6 months in South East Asia and South America, James proposed at the end of the trip when we were in Brazil, we treating ourselves to a more luxury accommodation compared to the hostels we were staying at for the rest of our trip and he popped the question after sunset on our balcony. We got my engagement ring when we were at home which was so special as I could use my Gran's diamond in the design.

THE VISION | We had a slight theme towards travelling as our table name cards were all the countries we went to on our 6 months away, we made these in to postcards with pictures we had taken in each country. The table plan was a map, with airmail postcards with the country and people's names on. We wanted it to be really relaxed garden party like feel.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We took a year to plan, it was quite an easy decision on location of the wedding as we are both from St Albans and still live there. I have always loved St Peters church building and always walked past it as a child going into town as my parents live very close to it. James also really liked the history of the church. Deciding on the reception venue was a lot more difficult as we wanted something that we could make our own, but also not too far from the church. This is quite difficult in St Albans as there are not many options to choose from and after a lot of looking we found the Holly Bush pub. This was perfect as it had the relaxed feel we were after, and had a beautiful garden, we could hire it exclusively which we knew would be more personal and make our guests feel at home. It had the added bonus of being a pub with lots of nice beers which we knew our guests would appreciate. The planning process was a lot more relaxed once this was sorted as the pub have a selected company for the marquee and caterer as well.

THE VENUE | St Peters Church, St Albans. The Holly Bush pub, Potters Crouch. Steve and Vanessa, who run the pub were very helpful and were always very quick to respond when I had any questions.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Dress: JLM couture - Tara Keeley. Earrings and necklace: Liberty in Love. Headband: Rosie Willet Designs. Shoes: Jimmy Choo. Rings: Temprell.

FINDING THE DRESS | The dress I chose was actually the last one I tried on after trying about 4 different places the dress room in Hertford had the one I loved most and Kirsty the owner of the shop was so lovely and very helpful.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Suit: Next. Shirt: Custom made by Cad and the Dandy. Tie: Armani. Shoes: Reiss.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | Readings (both on a travelling theme): Song of Solomon, Chapter 2 verses: 10-13 & Chapter 8 verses 6-7 and Ithaka by C.P. Cavafy.

Music at the church was very traditional; we had a choir and a violin to accompany the organ.

'Ava Maria' was sung by the choir which a favourite hymn of mine and 'Perpetuum Mobile - Penguin Cafe Orchestra' to exit to which is both mine and James' favourite piece of traditional music and very happy.

We have a very talented friend Barney Muller who played some acoustic guitar for us as everyone was in the garden having reception drinks and eating canapés. James organised all the music for the reception, he has always enjoyed djing and really enjoyed doing all the different playlists for the day. We had a mixture of jazz and Charleston type music for the sit down meal. Then a more varied selection for after including a house music half hour with laser lighting to really set it off. Our first dance was: Gorillaz - "On Melancholy Hill" (BBC Radio 1 - Live Lounge).

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Bridesmaid dresses: Ghost. Hair slide: Debenhams. Necklace: Liberty in Love.

THE FLOWERS | Done by a very talented friend Gill Cooper who also happened to be my boss at work, we had a lot of fun going to flower markets and picking the perfect flowers. I knew I wanted hydrangeas and roses so then there was lots of scanning of pinterest and Gill modelled the flowers on the pictures I gave her.

THE CAKE | Also done by two talented school friends of mine Lauren & Sam the cake was a very tasty vanilla madeira cake and they even made the rose petals from sugar themselves too.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Zoe and Richard from Zoetrope Photography who are a husband and wife wonder team, who made us and our guests feel very comfortable and documented our day perfectly.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | Once we had chosen the bridesmaid dresses it was easier to choose a colour theme for the wedding. We went for a green and pink theme that ran through everything including the lanterns which we decided to hang ourselves in the marquee (along with lots of family to help) the lanterns were from 'the hanging lantern company', Natalie from the company was so helpful and answered my panic last minute questions very quickly and gave me lots of ideas.

Decided to do little bottles of limoncello as favours, so we bought the little bottles ourselves and filled them up, these also doubled up as our place names.

My sister did the amazing designs for the label place names, the post cards for the table plan and she also designed our invitations and order of service all with the same colour and pattern theme running through it.

We choose to have a bbq for our sit-down meal which went with our relaxed theme, but instead of going up to get your food the caterers came with trays to the table and we had bowls of sides that you could share on the table, this was a really nice touch and meant everyone could be served at the same time. The caterers were amazing an did over and above what we asked them to do, our guests also loved the canapé's

We also had a Mojito bar from 6-8pm in the garden of the pub, which added something a bit different.

THE HONEYMOON | We are off on Safari in Kenya and to the beach in Zanzibar next week!!

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Jager bombs starting at 4pm!!

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Don't be afraid to delegate jobs to your nearest and dearest, they will love being a part of your day.
