After meeting in grade nine, Kaila and Kyle were in and out of each other's lives for years. The two eventually started dating after a chance meeting over the Christmas holidays one year. When it came time to make things official, Kaila says Kyle's proposal to her was personal and simple. "After spending the weekend at the cottage, we got home Sunday evening and decided to watch a movie," explains Kaila. "I paused the movie we were watching to have a leftover slice of blueberry pie. When I got back to the couch with the pie, Kyle pulled the ring out of his pocket and proposed. For our wedding, my mom made homemade blueberry pies as favours, which we nicknamed 'Proposal Pies," she laughs.
For their September celebration, the couple headed back to cottage country for a modern, lakeside party featuring a white and navy colour palette and countless personalized accents. Custom escort cards with fun sayings topped tables while walls were hung with chalkboard signs and twinkle lights. "All summer our families helped make homemade decor, from the birch tree chuppah and birch tree donut stands to the handmade pillows and pennant flags," says Kaila.
Kaila and Kyle both admit that they'll never miss an opportunity to hit the dance floor, so it's no surprise that cutting a rug was one of their favourite wedding day experiences. "Our band, Parkside Drive, kept the energy and party going all night long. It was hard to pull ourselves off the dance floor, because the energy was contagious," Kaila remembers.
