Independent Love Song - Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg: Je T'aime, Moi Non Plus

Morning Peeps,

Happy Monday!

Hope you all had a good weekend.

We are getting a little bit sexy for today's Independent Love Song. If you're at work, I'd turn the volume down now peeps just in case your boss thinks your getting on a little bit too well with a work colleague!

Je T'aime, Moi Non Plus (French for I love you... me neither) is a very sexy, very raunchy and very gorgeous love song written by Serge Gainsbourg and performed in a duet with his lover at the time, Jane Birkin. Despite its obvious sexual connotations that in the past have been deemed as offensive (the song was band in some countries due to it's erotic nature) this is a beautiful song and the fact that the lyrics are sung in French makes its all the more appealing and interesting to listen too. If ever there was a song to put you in the 'mood' for love then this has to be it!!

Je T'aime, Moi Non Plus also has a very interesting story behind it. The song was originally written for and recorded with Brigitte Bardot in 1967 after she asked Serge Gainsbourg to write the most beautiful love song he could ever imagine for her. Despite being married, Bardot had been having a love affair with Gainsbourg for quite some time but after they recorded a private arrangement of the song in Paris, news of the affair and the recording reached her husband who called for the single to be withdrawn. A year later, Gainsbourg re-recorded the version below with Jane Birkin who was heard saying that during the recording she ' got a bit carried away with the heavy breathing - so much so, in fact, that I was told to calm down!'

If you were to choose this song for your first dance, I would perhaps pre-warn the elderly members of your wedding party otherwise you may have to deal with a few shocked faces or your great aunty violet fainting!

Maybe on reflection this song would be much better suited to an elopement for two rather than for a wedding with 100 your guests. Perhaps its something you can save for your hotel room - wink wink nudge nudge!

Enjoy peeps......

Big Love
