Hooray for Anna's gorgeous pixie crop. Doesn't she look beautiful? Short hair styles are just the best for showing off lovely features and Anna has plenty of those (gorgeously long fluttery eyelashes for starters!!)

Today's wedding comes from Upwaltham Barns - a blank canvas venue surrounded by the beautiful Sussex countryside.

It's interesting how despite loving bright and bold colours in their day-to-day lives, Anna & Neil opted for calmer colours for their wedding decor and just goes to show that if it feels right for your venue - then go for it - even if the decor is totally different from what you thought you'd want.

The Dress

Anna The Bride: The dress was chosen after visiting a few shops, one in London and about four in Brighton. My maid of honour, Rula, did a fantastic job of coordinating visits. I had an idea in my head of roughly what I wanted but when you start trying lots of different styles, you can start filtering down what you do and don't like yourself. A big thing for me was that I definitely wanted lace, I wanted comfort and something that would flatter, not showing lumps and bumps. I loved the fish tail shape of most of the dresses - in some I felt like a million dollars and so glam! However they didn't feel right for the venue we had chosen.

I finally booked an appointment to go to Leonie Claire Bridal.They made me feel really welcome and asked me to just pick a few dresses just to try a load on. I tried to stay under a price range of £1,500 as I needed to be sensible. I loved a couple of them - again they were all a soft fish tail style but none were "the one". At the end of the trying-on session, they asked if I wanted to try any others and my sister went on a hunt and brought back a Claire Pettibone dress called Queen Anne's Lace. Looking at the dress, it was completely the opposite to the structured dresses I had tried but thought it was worth a go and...as soon as I put it on I knew it was the one. It felt like air - so comfy, flattering and just beautiful!!!

As soon as I put it on, everything fell into place. Leonie Claire stock accessories made by Polly Edwards and there was a head piece that matched all the colours in the dress. Perfecto!

The Groom

One of Neil's rugby contacts at the rugby club he used to play for (Mark Jenkins) owns a tailors in Brighton called Hugo Morris. Neil knew he wanted a bespoke suit for the wedding and got a three piece suit made. Although expensive, having a suit tailored is well worth the experience and investment!

Neil bought all the men matching socks, wooden tie clips and asked his mum (an expert carbooter) to get him a pocket watch for himself and his best man - Andrew.

The Venue

We got married at Upwaltham Barns, West Sussex. We did most of our venue hunting via the internet and spent a day calling venues and booking appointments.

Upwaltham Barns was the one and only venue we looked at which some might say is silly as you should shop around, however we felt it ticked all of our boxes so started looking at dates immediately.

The Decor

We struggled giving our wedding a theme as we never really thought about it when making our plans. We just picked things we liked and I suppose hoped they went together. Maybe 'country-vintage' is the best way to describe the setting and colours of the day.

We have to say that the venue dictated the style of our wedding. We wanted the day to look and feel relaxed and simple - no fuss. As the venue was so beautiful and the barns were so gorgeous on their own, we knew we didn't want anything really bright and garish to take away from this. The colours we wanted were simple creams, greens and soft tones. We felt these colours complimented the wooden beams and pale pinks of the bare brick walls.

It's funny because as a couple, we like bright colours and have quite vibrant personalities but we knew for the wedding that we really wanted something relaxed, natural and down to earth. We also sought quite a lot of inspiration from other weddings we had been to prior to ours. Every wedding is so different and as we had never planned anything like this before, we thought it was a good idea to draw from our experiences.

The Flowers

The flowers we chose were really important to us. I (Anna) love flowers and getting married in Spring meant that we had loads of options. Colour wise, we wanted to keep to white, pinks, greens (to match the colour scheme). The dress had a blush pink ribbon under the bust that trailed down to the floor and so pink peonies were the main colour in the main bouquet to compliment that. The bridesmaids had the same pink in their dresses so they had simple white bouquets to mirror my gown.

Kate our florist (from Raffia & Twine) seemed to have exactly the same taste as us, favouring wild arrangements. Our table flowers were wrapped and put into mason jars with hessian ties. Kate also decorated our table plan with a the most gorgeous green wreath.

The Wedding Party

The boys were asked to wear navy suits and the bridesmaids were bought a Ted Baker blush pink skater dress with a boat neckline and low back. These dresses were found by my maid of honour in an outlet store - about £150 off each! Bargain!

The Ceremony

We asked my maid of honour and one of the ushers to read hand picked poems that meant a lot of us.

The Entertainment

We couldn't afford any entertainment in the day but we managed to book a great live funk band called OOmphf - which made our day. Our friends Oli and Dan then DJ-ed for us and kept everyone raving until it was home time.

The Food

The food was to die for! The venue use a catering company called Nibbles 2 Nosh and the food was perfect! We had canapés in the courtyard whilst photos were going on and then everyone went into the main south barn to get stuck into their main of lamb shank with mash and veg. Vegetarians had a bean cassoulet which went down a treat. Chocolate brownies were for pudding and then later on while the band were playing, fish and chips were served to guests in newspaper cones.
