New Year Beauty Tips

New Year Beauty Tips

via

January! The time for; out with the old and in with the new, or so they say. Not everyone needs a brand new regime or to spend lots of money on new products, we may be just need a little freshen up here and there and the new year is the perfect excuse to do so.

I always find this the best time to have a good sort through my bathroom cabinet and make up bag to make sure that nothing needs to be replaced or thrown away - if you're unsure, check the smell and texture of the product, if it's not quite right then I would suggest popping it in the bin. As a guideline; mascara 3 months shelf life, foundation around 12 months and pencil's 9 to 12 months. If in doubt, replace it!

Please don't be put off my thinking a whole new regime must be mapped out as it's a new year, you may just need a little nudge in the right direction. Here are three easy hot tips the kick start 2015;

Back to Basics

A face wipe here and a face wipe there, are ok as a quick fix (something is better nothing), however, to thoroughly clean your face at the end of the day from all the pollution and dirt, a facial cleanser will work wonders, much more than a piece of cloth soaked in micellar water (this product is used by make up artists worldwide, but I see this as a quick fix and not something to look at long term). I sometimes do a double cleanse if heavier make up has been applied or I have been in the city, nothing feels better than a clean face. A spritz of toner is then applied to close the pores and a slick of moisturiser to nourish the skin, of course, one designed for your skin type.

If you have oily or combination skin, it doesn't mean that you shouldn't wear moisturiser, sometimes by stripping the skin of its natural oils, through a harsh cleansing routine, our sebum glands over produce, so it maybe that the oil glands needs to be regulated, therefore, by applying moisturiser, this could help with the secretion.

For the scrub of it

To help rid of dead skin cells and make way for the new ones more quickly, a weekly facial scrub whilst you're in the shower or bathing will do just the trick. It shouldn't be too abrasive, as the skin is delicate on the face and neck, but to ensure it is right for your skin type and it shouldn't take around 30 seconds when using the product.

Not forgetting the rest of your body, which also deserves some TLC, you can use a body scrub or the exfoliating gloves (which I personally love) working from the feet towards the heart in upward motions and applying some lovely body cream afterwards - what a treat!

Hot Water & Lemon

I read an amazing article recently about the health benefits of a cup of hot water and fresh lemon at the start of your day, which I am a huge fan of; stimulating the liver to release toxins, lemons are packed with vitamin C and antioxidants which are great for the skin, not to mention a whole host of other wonderful things. Even if this is one or two days a week instead of your normal tea or coffee, it's a start, right?

I love the quote above, makes you realise that we do need to look after ourselves, as much as we can, when we can.

What other things do you like or need to introduce into your regime? I'd love to hear about them.

See you again soon
