Dominika & Bartek tied the knot last year in Plock in central Poland, in a beautiful little hand-carved wooden church dating from 1740. The couple followed several Polish traditions, firstly in nominating one person each to be their marriage witness instead of having several bridesmaids and best men. They also received a blessing from their parents and grandparents before they left the church, to symbolise the beginning of a new chapter in their life together. THE PROPOSAL
Bartek and I met many years ago at university- we were in different groups but had mutual friends who introduced us. Bartek proposed to me on a trip to Paris: it was a very special moment on Montmarte Hill. The Parisian atmosphere was truly romantic, and it was as we watched a street performance that Bartek asked me to be his wife. I was so touched and happy. I remember how nervous he was and how happy when I said "yes"!DESTINATION DECISION
I really loved the church we chose for our wedding: a very small and old chapel near Plock with beautiful hand carved details and frescos inside. The main altar dates from the late 16th century and was transferred from another church. For our wedding suppliers, I relied very much on word of mouth recommendations: living in a different part of the country meant I couldn't possibly research all the suppliers myself. My hairdresser and makeup artist were already known to my family so I decided to go with them.
THE DRESS & DETAILS
My dress was actually a quick choice. I had looked at some dresses online, but when I started trying them on I immediately knew which type I'd go for: I didn't want a "Princess" style gown, and as I'm quite slim I wanted to highlight my figure. I decided to go for a modest, fitted dress with lace vest on top. The first time I tried on what would be my wedding dress my bridesmaid was with me and we were both very impressed. I then took my mum with me to make sure it was "the" dress! I wanted my wedding bouquet to be very colourful, like a summer meadow, so I chose seasonal late summer flowers like dahlias, gerberas and roses. During late spring and summer time we collected thousands of rose petals in advance for our wedding confetti. We were very lucky to have friends who work as designers who offered to do our invitations, and the car we drove on the day was lent to us by sister of my bridesmaid.MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT & ADVICE
I will always remember the moment we exchanged vows and the rings. Tying the knot with Bartek in front of all my family and friends for the rest of my life: that was the most precious moment of the day for me. Also the look on my husband's face when he saw me in the dress for they first time! I think it's worth talking to your married friends who have done it all before and ask them for advice and help.
