How to Do a Shoelace Braid

How to Do a Shoelace Braid

via

Braids are THE THING right now, if you haven't heard. We're seeing them everywhere, from red carpet events and runways to everyday environments like the office and gym. While we love braided styles like the fishtail and four-strand, we're ready for a challenge. We did a little digging and found a fabulous new braid that makes us reminiscent of our childhood: the shoelace braid. This cool-looking plait looks super complicated, but is far from it. Check out how to rock this style like no other!

Step 1. Give your hair some grip (to avoid hair from slipping out of the braid) by applying texturizing powder or spray to your hair. We love Shu Uemura Art of Hair Texture Wave Dry Finishing Spray.

Step 2. Create a deep side part at the top of your head. Take two small pieces from the top of the heavier side and tie them into a loose knot (as you would tie a shoelace).

Step 3. Just as you would a French or fishtail braid, repeat this tying process while adding small sections of hair. Angle the braid so you are working down the side of the head.

Step 4. Once you reach the base of the head, secure the shoelace with an elastic band.

Step 5. Gather and twist the remaining hair into a low chignon and secure with bobby pins. For a slightly mussed look, pull at the bun to loosen it.

Step 6. Spritz your hair with a strong-hold hairspray (we love L'Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Bold Control Hairspray).

Have you tried the shoelace braid? Tell us how you wear it in the comments below!
