Honeymoon in Paradise | the Mediterranean Island of Gozo

Honeymoon in Paradise | the Mediterranean Island of Gozo

What's uuuup!

This morning I am SUPER psyched to tell y'all about my holibobs!

Yes, that's right, not to make you jel or anything (ha, sorry not sorry gals!), but last week, along with my hunk of husband and 4 amazing mates, we jetted off to a small island off Malta, Gozo.

WHELP. It was Paradise.

No really, it's actually Heaven on Earth. Known as 'the place time forgot' and the 'island of joy', Brad and Angelina honeymooned on the island so, naturally, I had high hopes...

Man ALIVE did Gozo exceed my expectations! And what does a Festival Bride do when she's excited about something? Yup, you guessed it, we shout from the rooftops so our fellow brides-to-be can reap the benefits too.

Sharing is caring, right!?

So first, let me just get the logistics outta the way with four sweet little words: Gozo life is easy. 3 hours on a plane and a quick 20 minute, inexpensive ferry journey and you're on the island. You can drive on the left, speak English and even use an English postbox if you like?! You can drive around the entire island in 60 minutes, so nothing's far away and it has all the home comforts you could need: little super markets, ATMs, wifi in most cafés and a dang good coffee on almost every corner!

As for where to stay, we booked our apartment through (my new fave addiction) Airbnb for an absolute steal and it was b-e-a-utiful.

*Deep breath in, 'cause I said all that so fast!*

NOW, let's get down to it and talk beaches, because as much as you might be loving wedding planning (or not, let's be real here, things can get kiiiinda hectic!) you are gonna need to catch a break girl.

That time your ring matched the colour of the sea, yeah THAT time! For the Game of Thrones fans among you, it featured as the backdrop to Khaleesi's wedding (so, naturally, I lost my mind when I found out we'd be visiting, MAJOR girl crush!)

San Blas Bay, such a peaceful beach, with shallow waters + the sand is the most incredible colour. Swoon.

Beach outfits, of COURSE, included a Wanderlust Life necklace!

Now, let's chat about the capital, Victoria, where we were based.

For such a small island, Gozo has a high number of churches (46 in total) and you'll find the city awash with stunning architecture, statues and little Virgin Mary figurines in the walls. Every nook harbours a surprise, every door is stunningly beautiful as it's bright Mediterranean paint begins to peel, and the warmth of sandstone walls, what can I say? It's like some sort of film set. Really, it's otherworldly.

The city buzzes, but is chilled. It feels very local, relatively untouched by tourism and has an overwhelming sense of calm and a slower pace that we just fell in love with.

I definitely should've taken an empty suitcase, somebody get me that chair! Wandering through those empty streets during siesta time really is the most romantic notion, they're such a dream.

...And as for the night time?

Expect a small town feel; it's a chilled vibe, with truly epic sunsets (make sure you book a place with a balcony view and a hot tub if you can!) and you'll find plenty of gorgeous restaurants for you to indulge in...

Make sure you pay Xlendi Bay a visit (or two five!), you'll find characterful harbour-side bars and be sure to try the fish at Xlendi Bay's The Boat House (I'd recommend the lobster - holy heck yes!)

It's your honeymoon, after all!

So, if you're still looking for that perfectly relaxing, perfectly accessible and (I gotta tell you!) pretty darn affordable honeymoon, I do believe Gozo might be the place for you my friends!

We had such a rad trip and I can guarantee my wanderlust will take me there again soon.

That's it from me for a little while, as I'll be taking a break from writing and putting my time into some behind the scenes work here at FBrides, but rest easy my babes, you can still find me sharing daily doses of wedding goodness over on our Instagram feed and Pinterest boards!

Peace out

Clare X
