Romantic Humanist Forest Cornwall Pub Wedding - Whimsical...

Well days just don't get much more romantic than this.

Lauren and Samuel tied the knot last June in beautiful Cornwall. They married in the loveliest forest next to the home they lived in and followed with a pub party. On a budget of £3000 they created such a personal and meaningful day filled with home made touches. There was a scrumptious naked sponge layer cake, a wild look bouquet and pretty maids in pink.

Lauren looked so beautiful with her baby bump draped perfectly in Tiffany Rose with Gypsophila in her hair while Samuel looked dapper in Levi jeans, blazer and bow tie. Amaze.

Thanks so very much to the Workouse Collective for sharing these sensational images with us.

THE PROPOSAL | Sam proposed to me on Christmas Day 2012. We live in Penzance, Cornwall and always have a beach walk on Christmas Day with our dog. We went to Marazion beach and whilst I was distracted throwing stones for our dog Loki, Sam wrote 'Marry Me?' in the sand. He wrapped his arms around me and showed me a sweet vintage engagement ring. It was such a lovely moment and a TOTAL surprise as marriage wasn't really on our 'to do' list at that point!

THE VISION | A relaxed, informal day with close family and friends. Lots of personal and handmade detail. It was important to us that it reflected our shared love of the outdoors and Sam's passion for music. We basically wanted a party with great food, music and company. We knew we wanted to have a humanist ceremony and our dear friend Serenity agreed to marry us. It was also important to us to have a photographer who could capture the story of the day in a particular style. Lucy our lovely photographer was actually the first thing we booked, before we even had a venue!

THE PLANNING PROCESS | The planning process consisted of us scouring potential venues/options online (tepee's/manor houses/yurts/converted barns/beach cafés) and realising that we couldn't afford any of them! At one point we had had enough of the stress of trying to find an affordable dream venue and we considered eloping to Paris, just the two of us.

Then we had a light bulb moment. At the time we were living in a flat adjourning our landlords beautiful grand manor house which had woods next to it and a huge lawn with a giant tree at the bottom of it. It was the perfect place to get married! What could be better than getting married in the grounds of our first flat that we rented together!

Our landlord and his wife were very kind and agreed we could use the woods and the grounds (even after we moved out before the wedding!). They even let me and my bridesmaids get ready in the manor itself. We then decided to hire a vintage bus to take our guests and ourselves to our pub reception. We took a MASSIVE gamble on the weather. We planned an outdoor wedding ceremony on a Cornish summers day with no back up plan...! It was risky but it paid off with the most glorious summers day. Phew!!

BUDGET | £3,000

THE VENUE | Rosehill Manor, Penzance, Cornwall. Sam set up the venue on the morning of our wedding. We hired benches for the guests and used our own furniture and decorations to build our wedding venue.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Tiffany Rose dress. Accessories were simply a turquoise and gold bracelet that was my Nan's. Tiny turquoise and ruby vintage earrings that Sam bought me a few years before and gypsophila in my hair. I wore turquoise chunky high heels from New Look that I had bought the year before for Sam's sisters wedding!

FINDING THE DRESS | This was interesting because in February I discovered I was pregnant! As it was my first child I had no idea how big I might be at nearly 6 months pregnant! In the end I went for a maternity wedding dress from Tiffany Rose which was basically the dress I would have wanted if I wasn't pregnant.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Jacket: Zara. Levis Jeans. White shirt: Luke 1977. Bow tie: Topman. Pierre Cardin brown leather shoes.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | We approached a local busker to play at the ceremony. He was superb. Just him and his acoustic guitar, entertained the guests as they arrived at the manor and then again after the ceremony. As my Dad walked me down the aisle, he played a fantastic version of The Beatles classic Eight Days a Week. After the kiss we walked back down the aisle to greet friends/family as he played Bright Eyes First Day Of My Life. We only had one reading during the ceremony, which was read by Sam's sister. It was the lyrics to the song Thank You by Led Zeppelin.

The reception was accompanied by an iPod playlist during dinner and then a local band called Straw Dogs. They totally lifted the roof.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | My bridesmaids Jo and Nina wore H&M maxi dresses and then wore their own choice accessories, hair and shoes. I didn't want them to look exactly the same.

THE FLOWERS | Due to the outdoor setting of the ceremony we decided we only needed a single bouquet for me the bride. I wanted a 'just picked and thrown together' look so I went to a well known supermarket two days before the wedding and purchased bunches of mini Roses, Stocks and Gypsophila. So our wedding flowers cost a total of £30! My amazing Mum Gill arranged the flowers to make my bouquet and the flowers to go on the tables at the reception. Gill also spent over a year collecting and drying rose petals for the confetti!

THE CAKE | Sam's amazing Mum Dee made a huge 3 tiered Victoria sponge which was then covered in cream, strawberries, blueberries and roses. The topper was a little bunting banner that read 'Best Day Ever'. It was a real show stopper! We also had the tastiest red velvet cupcakes made by my bridesmaid Jo to go with our Prosecco toast at the ceremony. They were heaven!

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Lucy Browning at Workhouse Collective. The loveliest, friendliest and most talented wedding photographer! Lucy was just starting out when I booked her for our wedding. I only saw one wedding photo shoot that she had done and I booked her up straight away, her style was exactly what I wanted.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | Sam is a builder/carpenter so he made our wedding sign, painted an old desk blue to be used as the 'bar' at the ceremony (which is now our little boy's changing table!) and he painted some old chairs for the bridesmaids to sit on. We had a colourful little rug to stand on and tree trunk rounds to stand the little wicker baskets full of rose petal confetti. We had cupcakes on vintage cake stands at the ceremony.

We hired a great pub 'The Falmouth Packet Inn' and kept it simple with a hog roast, strawberries and cream and a Cornish cheese board. I made wedding favours which doubled up as place names which were a single Cornish biscuit and a single Cornish tea bag tied together with 'all you need is love' name tags.

THE HONEYMOON | An absolutely awesome 3 days in Paris.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS |

Sam: Seeing Lauren walk down from the manor.

Lauren: My Dad walking me down the grass lawn and seeing all my friends and family and then seeing Sam waiting for me looking darn handsome, it was more exciting and fun than I ever thought it could be! Also the vintage bus ride to the reception was really memorable, everyone thought that was a great experience.

Lauren and Sam: The last song played at our reception was 'Hey Jude' by the Beatles. It was the most amazing moment because we had named our son Jude and no one knew at the time because we had kept the sex of our baby a secret! We had everyone we love the most in the world dancing and singing 'Hey Jude' together, it was just the perfect end to the perfect day.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Do what YOU want to do (Sam). Be brave, believe in your vision and on the day take 20 minutes, just you and your partner to just BE together (Lauren).
