A former British colony located off the coast of Africa (about 1,000 miles east of Kenya), Seychelles is a favored destination of the rich and famous looking for quiet luxury. Indeed, even William and Kate honeymooned in this collection of tiny islands! If you choose this country for your honeymoon, expect a relatively remote getaway-you won't experience the crowds and tourist traps that you might find in other popular tropical destinations. Here are 5 things to make sure you experience in this little slice of paradise!

Victoria

As the capital city (and the largest one), you will travel through Victoria as you arrive and depart (shown above). But make sure to also spend some time in the town. There are several open air markets to enjoy, offering everything from locally-made arts and crafts to fresh seafood. Museums and architecture with influence from the British colonization are also worth a tour, especially when you need a break from the sun for the afternoon.

Anse Intendance

Those honeymooners wanting a classic beachfront view, will love the hotels on Anse Intendance. A stretch of white sand dotted by palm trees and a vivid aqua expanse of ocean, there are few places more idyllic. If you are an experienced surfer, this is the perfect beach for you. Otherwise, forgo the swimming because of the large waves and simply enjoy the sand and sun!

Seychelles National Botanical Gardens

Located in Victoria, the Seychelles National Botanical Gardens prove that the beaches aren't the only sources of natural beauty on these islands! Pack your sunscreen and insect repellant and tour the 5 acres of flowers and plants, including the lovely orchid greenhouse. Of course, the most interesting element to these gardens are the giant tortoises who wander the grounds. Some are even older than the century-old gardens.

Copolia Trail

One of the best views is from the top of the Copolia Trail. Located on Mahe Island, and near Victoria, these trails are often patrolled by local security to ensure safety. Although it is considered perfectly safe to do this hike on your own (it is steep in certain places, but not an overly difficult hike overall), some tourists prefer to hire a guide. Guides can provide you with extra insights on the flora and fauna you will spot along the way.

La Digue Island

The rock formations on the beaches of this island appear almost otherworldly. Beaches like Anse Source d'Argent (pictured above) are stunning and completely unique. If you want a secluded honeymoon, one of La Digue's resorts may be the perfect fit for your vacation. Otherwise, simply take the ferry there to spend the day. While there are a few taxis on the island, it is often easier and cheaper to ride a bike to the beach. Resort guests usually are provided golf carts or vans from the resort to the ferry dock.
