Fresh & DIY Orchard Rustic Barn Wedding in Indiana - Whimsical...

Sandy and Drew, oh how I adore your sweet wedding. All DIY fabulous with a gold, mint and coral colour palette. The rustic barn nestled in the pretty orchard setting was just so perfect and really set the tone for the day.

The attire was just something else, a muted tone suit with bow tie, mint bridesmaid frocks and a beautiful lace gown. Wow.

Thanks so much to Chloe Jennings Photography for providing the dreamy imagery.

THE VENUE | The ceremony and reception was held at Wea Creek Orchard. From the moment we set foot on the venue owner's property we knew that this was the place we wanted to get married at. With a summer wedding date set, we knew the apple trees would be in full bloom and would create a beautiful backdrop for photographs. We also were in love with the barn on the property. I had visions of a DIY rustic - barn wedding and I loved that the owners preserved the uniqueness on the inside of the barn. Overall, the property was beautiful and well kept.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | I wore a trumpet laced dress with the original neckline altered into a sweetheart neckline purchased at David's Bridal. My mother loaned me a necklace of hers and the headband took place of the traditional wedding veil. I accessorised with gold. My golden wedges were purchased via Modcloth.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | We decided to go with a lighter coloured suit to match the light and airy theme we were going with for the wedding. The pocket square and bow tie were purchased at T.J.Maxx and we were ecstatic to find them! Those items combined with the light brown suspenders helped in completing the 'dapper' look we were aiming for.

BRIDESMAID & FLOWER GIRL ATTIRE | I told the girls to pick out some nude coloured shoes to wear with their mint coloured dresses. I especially loved these dresses that were purchased at J.C. Penney and were no more than thirty-dollars. I tried finding a dress that was affordable and could be worn more than once. They were comfortable and had a laced design, which meshed well with my attire. The flower girl's dress was also purchased through J.C. Penney and was a miniature version of my dress. The belt worn around her waste was made by me, supplies were purchased at Hobby Lobby.

FLOWERS | Flowers were ordered through a local shop. I put together the bridesmaid's bouquets with baby's breath and tied some twine around the stems. A woman at the local shop designed my bouquet and I requested peach garden roses and simple foliage throughout. I absolutely loved my bouquet; she successfully completed the elegant look I was going for. The groom and groomsmen all wore a boutonnière designed by me. I purchased burlap material from Hobby Lobby and threw in baby's breath on the day of. We decided to go with real flowers considering we'd be saving money if I designed most of the arrangements myself.

PASTRY | Cupcakes and cake pops were made by a friend meanwhile our cake was ordered from a local shop as well. We went against the grain and had a mint coloured cake made, with some gold and off-white coloured touches and added a flower-topper. We had a smaller guest list so two-tiers was plenty for everyone.

CENTREPIECES & DÉCOR | The centrepieces were all designed by myself. Mason jar, twine-wrapped wine bottles, and paper mint and gold confetti on top of a burlap runner. We filled each jar with peach carnations and baby's breath. Again, I wanted to go with a simple, rustic-chic look. During our ceremony you may notice a backdrop of mint, coral, and gold ribbons. For that project, I had purchased fabric from Hobby Lobby and cut strips out of each of them and tied them to a durable string. From the coffee bar, to the dessert, and gift table any supplies that aren't handmade by me were purchased from Hobby Lobby or Target, two of my favourite places. Overall, I tried to stick close to my theme of gold, mint, and coral. I wanted the décor to look simple and not overwhelming that way it fit with the barn-wedding theme.

MISC. | For this DIY wedding our goal was to cut costs, but still have an elegantly decorated venue. One of the big ways we cut costs was evading the hired DJ and asking a family friend to MC for the event. We were also able to borrow speaker equipment from a family friend and made a wedding playlist on our cellphone and had it hooked up to play all night. We decided to do away with the fog machine, and disco lights because it wasn't going to fit with our theme. Instead we had globe lights draped across the dance floor. We also cut costs by having desserts and coffee instead of a full-course meal. Near the end of the night we had a Chinese lantern ceremony in which we sent off lanterns to remember all the loved ones that could not celebrate with us in person. We wrapped the night up with a sparkler-send off. Thankfully the rain subsided just in time for us to light both the lanterns and the sparklers!

PHOTOGRAPHER | We met our wonderful photographer through a friend of ours who had recently gotten married. Chloe is so talented in what she does. She is personable and genuinely makes us laugh, which makes for better shots! She is easy to work with and very professional. We knew we wanted Chloe to photograph our event because we both have similar styles. I get the feeling we both enjoy vintage things and when I saw her portfolio, I loved her photography style as well. She was the final puzzle piece to our special day and she was affordable! It's hard to find talent like that for a great price!
