3 Ways to Wear Oxblood

There's no denying there's a new shade in town that will definitely shake things up for fall. Yup, we're talking about oxblood. This deep, maroon color is quite the departure from the bright pinks and corals we've been rocking in the hot, summer months ... and we are all about it! While many think oxblood is reserved for the lips, we know there are many ways to work this color into your beauty routine -- three in fact. Check out these amazing ways to wear oxblood, courtesy of makeup pro Alana Dawn!

Step 1: Keep makeup natural by sticking to a lightweight, matte foundation. Just make sure the skin is even-toned and all blemishes are covered.

Step 2: Using an angled blush brush, apply your oxblood blush (we love Lancôme Blush Subtil in Shimmer Petite Pomegranate) along the cheekbones up to the temples of the cheeks. Do not hit the upper cheekbone - you want to keep the color mid-cheek so there's a bit of a contouring effect. Make sure you are using swift, gentle strokes for light application. You can build the intensity to your liking, but remember that this is a deep color and you don't want to go overboard. Blend out the blush so there's a natural transition of color.

Step 1: Line the lips prior to applying lipstick to prevent bleeding or feathering. If you don't have a lip pencil that matches your lipstick, go for an invisible lip liner like Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil in Ozone.

Step 2: Fill in lips with your oxblood lip color (we love NYX Cosmetics Extra Creamy Round Lipstick in Hestia), using a lip brush. Clean up the area around the lips with a concealer and a small brush.

Step 1: Apply a creamy eye shadow base to the lid to allow your oxblood hue to really pop. Try Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion.

Step 2: Apply a dark maroon shadow (like NYX Cosmetics Nude Matte Shadow in Skinny Dip) on the lid and blend it upward.

Step 3: Using a fluffy, crease brush, apply a red shadow into the crease, blending upward. Try the red shade in the Giorgio Armani Limited Edition Palette 2.
