I have to admit that wedding flowers are just one of my very favourite elements of a wedding day. They are so pretty and can completely transform a theme or atmosphere, while adding scent and season.

I'm Roxanne and I own Lily Blossom florist. We're situated between Greater Manchester and West Yorkshire. I've been a florist for over 10 years and love what I do, a passion for flowers that has not only shaped my career but also my wardrobe!! :-)

I love working with couples, listening to their ideas and guiding them towards creating their fabulous day. I love making the planning process as fun, relaxing and enjoyable as possible, and of course, I love designing and creating the arrangements. My only dislike, the cold weather in the winter - no central heating in the shop is good for the flowers but not the florist!

I achieved a qualification in floristry at college and quickly got a job at a local florist. I then worked in various shops and event companies around Manchester and Cheshire building up my skills in various aspects of the industry. I opened up Lily Blossom in September 2012.

Early start for a wedding day, checking over all the work from the day before; then onto buttonholes, wiring work, head dresses etc. followed by delivery, one of my favourite parts. Seeing the reaction when flowers are delivered makes all the early mornings worthwhile. The afternoons are usually, if free after a wedding, booked with consultations.

I'd either like to be in the catering part (just because I love food) or photography, I'm so jealous that photographers get to see the whole amazing day!

My main goal is to turn their ideas into a reality, creating beautiful floral arrangements for their big day. Attention to detail and personal service is another big goal, I want the couples to feel they've been well looked after, making the planning as fun and stress free as possible.

I've adapted to many different styles over the years, modern, structured, romantic and vintage, I think that's what makes a good florist, always changing, always learning. I just love using flowers and creating new designs.

Prices change depending on season, flowers and size of arrangements, we're just compiling a 'from..' price list to send out to couples, helping them to budget for their big day.

Meet your florist in person, get a feeling for them, look at their website/social media and get a sense of their work. Testimonials from previous couples are always great to see too. Be honest about your budget, a good florist should aim to maximise it with, for example, seasonal flowers, flexible use of your arrangements and honest advice about what will have the biggest impact on the day.

The vintage DIY look is still here but people also seem to be going on a more natural theme with plants and natural foliage. Bright colour schemes are also an increasing trend alongside the classic blush pinks, pastel shades and vintage schemes. I'm always excited by change so welcome the opportunity to be diverse in my designs and materials.

We've just started getting some fabulous pieces for hire including a flower cart, lanterns and some huge chunky urns, fabulous with either fresh flower arrangements or large plants. We're also expanding the space in the shop to create a wedding consultation area, making the planning process even more fun and a visual feast for our couples.
