Great proposals often inspire the details of the celebrations that follow, but rarely do they also inspire a business plan. Such was the case for Scott McCallum and Victoria Walsh, authors of the new book A Field Guide to Canadian Cocktails.

Scott popped the question next to a sunny container garden he had secretly built on the rooftop of the couple's apartment. The garden not only came to symbolize the beginning of their lives together, it also cultivated in Scott and Victoria a newfound interest in urban farming. This new hobby, paired with Victoria's background as a food writer and recipe developer, led the couple to try their hands at creating garden-fresh cocktails.

Eventually, they decided they needed to move beyond their garden in search of distinctly Canadian flavours to showcase in their drinks. What came next was a cross-country road trip to discover the the unique ingredients and the stories that have shaped our drinking landscape.

The couple returned from their trip and created collection of cocktail recipes that pay homage to our home and native land, from a boozy take on the iconic Double Double to several re-imagined versions of the Caesar, Calgary's cocktail claim to fame.

Here we'll give you a sneak peek at five of the 100 Canadian cocktail recipes within the book, all of which would make impressive signature drinks for a patriotic wedding cocktail hour.
