Makeup Pros Predict Fall Makeup Trends

We know what you're thinking: "It's not even spring yet, and we're already talking about fall?" We get that our mention of fall makeup trends could seem a bit premature, but may we remind you of a not-so-little event known as New York Fashion Week that will be kicking off this week. In a few days, all anyone will be talking about is all things fall, so we thought we'd join in on the fun. To get our beauty brains programmed accordingly, we decided to look into our crystal balls and predict some of the looks that will be on the Fashion Week runway. Check out what our favorite makeup pros had to say about some of the fall makeup looks we might be obsessing over.

Stained Lips

The more things change, the more they stay the same. LA-based makeup artist Emily Oliver says soft, pink pouts will be huge on the runway, along with the vampy lip that's synonymous with fall and winter. "We'll be seeing a lot of stained lips," she says. "I think it's going to be all about the berry shades and deep red lips."

Mascara (TONS of It)

Another look Oliver predicts will be HUGE is bigger, badder lashes, courtesy of some serious mascara action. "Recently in Europe, I worked quite a few couture shows in which bold lips paired with pretty mascara were in demand," says Oliver. In other words, go longer, more voluminous with your lashes in the fall (and now!). So if you haven't mastered the mascara wand, it's time to learn!

Neon Eye Shadow

Although fluorescent, colorful shadow is typically a trend we see in the spring, New York City makeup pro Ashley Rebecca says this year, it will be very much a fall look. "I think we are going to see a lot more creativity on the runways for fall/winter NYFW, such as pops of neon colors, intricate shapes, and a lot of playing with different textures," Rebecca says. Get a jumpstart on the neon makeup trend and try your hand at some tangerine eyeliner by following this tutorial.

Graphic Liner

Fall is a great time to bring on the drama, and there's no better way to do it than with your eyeliner, says Oliver. "I think we're going to see a lot of clean skin with cool, graphic liner." So, prepare to take your classic cat eye to a bold new level!

Glossy Skin

Los Angeles-based makeup guru Rachel Halsey said the glossy, dewy skin that has been picking up steam will not be taking a backseat to matte makeup in the fall. "Glossy skin that's dramatic-yet-polished will probably be seen on the runways," says Halsey. " I'd say flawless, dewy skin will continue (throughout the year)."
