The briefest of timelines on creative directors Michael and Nicole Colovos:
2001: Met
2003: Married
2004: Won the CFDA's first annual prize for emerging designers
2007: Took over as designers and creative leads at Helmut Lang and showed their first collection
2014: Showed their final collection for Helmut Lang
2015: Completed their first collection for their own brand, Colovos 2016: Showed it to Olivia Kim

To call the Colovoses new designers is obviously incorrect, but to call their new line a new, emerging and exciting one is certainly correct. With an emphasis on easy silhouettes, modern style, and luxurious fabrications, the pair is making their name the name to know. Think: denim that fits and wears like the best trousers, supple leather skirts with just the right amount of sway, and sweatshirts in rich linen, cotton and alpaca blends.

Their magic as designers lies in balance. We saw it in action as Michael tightened-albeit slightly-the belt of a gorgeous leather apron dress on a fit model, and then Nicole let it back out a little.

He wanted to see the waist nipped just slightly, she knew most women would want to wear it a bit more loose. That the silhouette is totally adaptable is all the more genius.

Olivia and her buying team loved the pieces and we can't wait to bring them to you next fall, but until then there's this: The guardian angel who trademarks all that the Colovos duo creates. He's abstract on a crisp white shirt, and you'll find him on clever patches inside the collection's killer bomber jackets.

So far, the benevolent and protective spirit seems to be working.
