Chic Same Sex Wedding with Glamorous Style and a Rustic Setting

via

We've got such a gorgeous wedding to share with you guys today, filled with killer style, pretty details, personal touches, a 4-year-old pooch and... smoke bombs!

Brooke & Lauren are a couple who live in New York, and wanted to bring their cool city style to a romantic and rustic Connecticut setting.

To say we're honoured to be sharing their sweet and chic bash is putting it mildly, with wonderful photography by Jenna Bascom Event & Editorial Photography and thoughtful planning by This Modern Love Events.

Celebrating both their wedding day, and their sweet dog Jelly's (cool name BTW!) birthday, Brooke & Lauren included lots of personal details in their day, from their choice of venue (a place where Lauren celebrated her birthday as a kid), to their officiant, (Lauren's dad), to their ode to Jelly during the ceremony.

And of course those smoke bomb portraits gave a blast of colour to their day (and they almost didn't happen!).

But my favourite thing about this wedding, aside from the gorgeous florals, beautiful venue, and big smiles, has to be these brides' killer style.

While they both went for bold and modern, yet vastly different looks, with their gorgeous white dresses and bright heels they complemented eachother so beautifully, with wedding day style that would be just as home on the pavements of NYC, as it was in the gardens of Connecticut.

We just know you're going to love this one!

Our Wedding

We live in New York City, but chose Washington, CT for its beautiful backdrop and because Brooke spent much of her childhood there. Our goal was to marry the rustic beauty of the country with our glamorous and dramatic New York sensibilities. Brooke grew up in Washington, CT, so it's a place that's very special to her. Her father still lives there, and after spending many a long weekend there, it's become special to Lauren too.

The Dresses

We took most of our photos on Brooke's dad's gorgeous property, and loved seeing our city-girl dresses against the backdrop of the countryside. You don't have to look any further than our choice of dresses that we have two pretty different personal styles, but it was nice to blend them together for the best, most beautiful day of our lives.

Personal Touches

We also wanted to embrace a spirit of fun, which is why we rented classic school buses to shuttle our guests, rented an open-air photo booth, and included a "happy birthday" celebration for our dog, Jelly, in the ceremony. One of the big requirements for our wedding venue was that it would allow Jelly to be there for at least part of the festivities. He is our everything and as a certified therapy animal, he is loved by many people who only get to spend a short amount of time with him. We knew with everything going on that he would be able to stay calm and be a calming presence in such a hectic setting. Not only that, but when we realized that our wedding date also fell on his 4th birthday, we knew we had to celebrate him too. We added a little extra time in our short ceremony to parade him up and down the aisle while Stevie Wonder's "Happy Birthday" played on the speakers, and we even both bent down and kissed him instead of kissing each other when our officiant - Lauren's dad - said it was time to kiss the love of our lives!

The Venue

While we originally thought we would get married in New York City, we looked at the Washington Club on a whim and were blown away. The raw space, high ceilings, rustic quality, and accommodating spirit of the staff there were unmatched in any venue we'd ever seen. Not to mention, after seeing a bunch of places that were manufactured to look rustic, the Washington Club is a historic property that actually is rustic. We were drawn to the fact that the club had a lot of amenities and were truly given a lot of room to make the space and experience our own, which we definitely did. Plus, we couldn't pass up an opportunity to get married in the same place where Brooke had her eighth birthday party!

The Smoke Bombs

We are obsessed with our smoke bomb photos!! Before our wedding, Brooke saw them in a high fashion photo shoot and just knew we had to have them. We chose pink and blue because in all the photos we saw of them online, those seemed to be the most beautiful colors. Since we did our photos before the ceremony, we were short on time and almost scrapped the smoke bomb photos, but we are so glad we took the five minutes to get show-stopping, unique wedding photos we cherish.

The Reception

Vintage lights were a no-brainer for our barn-like venue, but by grouping them along the ceiling and extending them into a light curtain, it gave the old-fashioned space a dramatic and modern twist. The same went for our menu; in a nod to the warm and intimate environment, we served modern twists on comfort food, family style. We loved the idea of our guests enjoying Southern-style biscuits, while sipping Champagne!

My favourite weddings are always the ones where the couples are beaming from start to finish, and this is certainly one of those! We haven't seen those smoke bomb snaps in a while now on the blog, but they're so fun, right?

And don't Lauren & Brooke have killer style? What a cool couple!

Thanks so much to Jenna Bascom Event & Editorial Photography, This Modern Love Events and of course, the fabulous Lauren & Brooke for sharing their super chic wedding.

Be inspired by more amazing real weddings.
