Milica has her brother Milan to thank for introducing her to Sean. "I had met Sean out with my brother a few times," Milica explains. "No one could have imagine that we would get married because my brother is super protective of my sisters and I, and we were considered off limits to anyone, let alone friends." After running into each other again, Milica and Sean started to date but they didn't tell Milan until his wedding day when Sean showed up as Milica's date. "I am sure I could have picked a better time to tell my brother," Milica laughs. "But he was thrilled. Anyone who knows Sean knows how great of a person he is and my whole family was excited that we ended up together."

For their wedding day, the Milica and Sean chose a mixed colour palette of oranges, greens and pinks. "As a joke, my husband said his favourite Ninja Turtle was Michelangelo, so our colours had to be orange and green. In working with our wedding planner and florist, the idea of 'California Chic' came to life," Milica shares. "We used tons of actual oranges and grapefruit everywhere, including in our eight-foot eucalyptus chandeliers and as table numbers."

With their heart set on a tented wedding venue, Milica and Sean immediately thought about the Canadian Derby at Northlands Racing as a potential reception location. The idea of a racetrack wedding appealed to the couple since Sean had spent his youth at the horse races with his grandfather and dad. They also owned horses and have a history in harness racing in Canada. "We were very fortunate that Northlands allowed us to have our wedding at the infield of the horse racetrack, as it has never been done before," Milica says. "We even invited guests to enjoy the horse races from the infield, as they snacked on food, had drinks and played garden games. We also had the final race named after us and got to make bets and take pictures in the winner's circle."

One of the highlights of the night came after the dinner and speeches. "The coolest part of the night was having the northern lights dancing above us while we danced for the first time as husband and wife. The northern lights are pretty spectacular on any night, but to have them on your wedding above an outdoor dance floor is unlike anything you could ever imagine," Milica concludes.
