Christine and Timo were married in Aschaffenburg in northwest Bavaria, Germany. The wedding was mostly held outdoors and had a hippy, boho and festival vibe.

"We were inspired by music festivals, especially the Castle Festival in Holland which could be described as a pagan, live action role-playing game and fantasy festival", said the bride. "Our invitations were made to look like festival tickets and we gave each guest a wristband."

The ceremony was pagan, and included a ritual's for each of the four elements. "We had a free open-air wedding ceremony with hay bales for seating which were covered with colourful blankets. The wonderful Simone Pfundstein lead the ceremony and said many personal things about us. The highlight was the ritual of the melting of the rings, which were frozen in ice to symbolise the element of water. We then planted a symbolic tree to represents the earth, used torches for fire, and finally ignited an incense burner for air."

The reception was held at Tanzschule Alisch. "We saved a lot of money by doing the decoration and the concept ourselves. The lanterns were ordered directly from China. Some things were not that important to us so we changed them. We did not want a classic wedding cake so we had a naked cake made by a friend. It's also easy to save money on the flowers if you choose cheaper flowers too. We had wild flowers and everything mixed up in different pots. That was way cheaper than going for say, red roses. It also suited our theme better. The only thing we didn't save on was our photographer. That didn't come cheap but it was absolutely worth it."
