A Fairytale Forest Wedding with a Feather Cape

A Fairytale Forest Wedding with a Feather Cape

via

Imagine a fairytale-inspired wedding in the woods... What comes to mind? A day overflowing with gems and jewels, angelic accents and twinkling lights? Well, today's wedding is all that, and more!! Jessica + Jonathan tied the knot in a redwood grove in Northern California with the help of their family friend, Tim, owner of Georgia-based Green Gables Events. Together, they created one alluring + magical day - even with Tim on the other side of the country! Jessica wore a bespoke full-length feather cape, their ceremony backdrop was a stunning feather + greenery set up, vintage furniture was brought in for the cocktail hour and reception, and the flower girl had feather wings fit for an angel... The incredible details don't stop there!

The bride shares I drew inspiration from our home in San Francisco, which is brimming with eclectic furniture, rich jewel tones, loads of brass, dream catchers, crystals, and an array of textures. On weekends, Jonathan and I ventured around SF and surrounding areas to collect vintage treasures to incorporate into the big day! The goal was to create a truly celestial experience, one that would leave a lasting impression... O ur relationship is anything but traditional, so we wanted our wedding to be a true reflection of our love. Living in SF means we spend lots of weekends in NorCal - whether it be the Russian River Valley, Healdsburg, Napa or anywhere along the coast, we love balancing our hectic lifestyle by submerging ourselves in nature. Northern California has captured our hearts with its beauty, and was the natural choice for our celebration.

Let's head to the woods and see all the incredible details captured by Katch Silva, shall we?

The 'maids dresses were inspired by Stevie Nix and aptly named "Go Your Own Way". The bride didn't want her ladies to match too much, so each bridesmaid selected her own unique gold belt to add a bit of personal flare to the look. Love that!!

How cute is she?!? The darling flower girl is wearing a lace dress from Posh Peanut Kids.

Keeping with the feather theme, the groom wore a navy + burgundy feather bow tie from Feather Game Birds UK.

The couple's pup wore a custom velvet bow tie + with leash from Frenchic Love.

Feathers and faux fur were key elements in the décor and outfits for the day. Custom Inkspirations made the angelic wings!

First Dance: Do You Realize?? by The Flaming Lips

The bride shares about a last-minute detail: I wanted to do something with a vintage milk glass bracelet I had, and I imagined a gorgeous headpiece! My maid of honor, Meghan, assembled the bracelet with gold chains - the day of- while all of us were getting our hair done at the salon.

That cape by La Costurera! Holy SMOKES!! The bride shares Kim, the owner of The Perfect Fit in San Jose saved me with last minute alterations and helped attach the lace sleeves to my dress.

Bride: We both had a "whoopsie" moment during the actual ceremony... Jonathan dropped the ring and after the first kiss (and just before the walk out) I dropped my bouquet. The 30-minute sneak away following the ceremony where we got to spend quality time frolicking in the forest, which was captured so elegantly by our amazing photographer!

Groom: Seeing Jessica walk across the bridge in the forest with her dad, as she approached the ceremony space. And watching her dance the night away in her cape (leaving behind little feathers everywhere she went).

The bride originally had custom clogs designed, but due to chilly weather and how the dress was shortened, the bride opted to wear her favorite house slippers from Moccasins Canada and save the clogs for the honeymoon.

Love that lounge!!

So many fun + eclectic details!

The goal was to appeal to the senses on every level... So a lot of incense was infused throughout the day.

The Guest Book "Globe" is from Everthine Designs.

Isn't this reception setting simply ethereal?

You do YOU. Do not stray away from something because something isn't "normal" or traditional. Don't let others talk you out of what you want, or be afraid to go against tradition. Your wedding is your special day, and it's about YOU. Being from the South, most of the weddings I attended were very traditional. When I first told my mother that I was looking for floor cushions, she said, "FLOOR CUSHIONS?!? AT A WEDDING?" but in the end she was blown away by how unique it was and proud of how we stayed true to ourselves. If you want a teepee, source one! If you fancy incense... Light it up!

We're majorly crushing on this three-tier Geode Cake with White Chocolate Ganache + Raspberry Champagne Truffle frosting! The bride shares There were surprises sprinkled throughout the evening, including the cake - I had no idea what it would look like! I had given our caterer, a few ideas and told him I wanted champagne frosting... But the rest was up to him! I was absolutely blown away by not only how gorgeous it looked, but how scrumptious it tasted. Jonathan also surprised me with the wooden knife - which he had custom made for our wedding day.

Was that spectacular or what?! From the team here at GWS, congrats you two!!
