When packing for a trip, it's important to consider the bags inside your bags. How many handbags? And which ones?

For her meetings-packed journeys to Fashion Week, our handbags buyer Jennifer Sabenorio brings a full Russian nesting doll situation: a satchel that can hold a clutch, and a tote that can hold everything. Plus something elegant for evening soirées. And maybe a bonus bag, to match her Gucci shoes.

Here she is talking about packing for what buyers call "going to market."

SHOP: all handbags | Fendi satchel | Valentino shoulder bag *Gucci handbags available in stores only; inquire at 1.888.282.6060 The Thread: What item of clothing can you not wait to bust out during Fashion Week?

Jennifer Sabenorio: The trifecta is a game-changer handbag, killer shoes and statement coat. Caveat: the shoes and handbag must work as hard as I do. No blisters, fuss-free and effortless style.

What do you normally wear that you would not be caught dead in during FW?

Flip-flops. Can't help that I'm a California girl at heart. Really unfortunate that flip-flops are such a fashion faux pas these days. I secretly hope they'll walk the runway and my wildest dreams will come true. Hey, it could happen. Anyone recall the Chanel show with illuminated Birkenstocks last year?

What guilty pleasure helps you survive the craziness?

There's a tiny organic and healthy breakfast joint in Paris called Bob's Kitchen in Le Marais. Being a road warrior, I seek a sense of community and familiarity. A simple menu that I would whip up in my own kitchen. Fresh juices and a pancake that may change your life. It's no surprise so many models and celebs frequent this little gem. Their homemade bagel, cream cheese and avocado does a soul some good during the whirlwind of Fashion Week.

Do you have any (pre-) FW rituals?

Doesn't everyone? Health, wellness and beauty is my M.O. It's vital to decompress before an action-packed market. Spending time at a Turkish/Russian bathhouse and a clean diet is my preparation. And also buying some killer pieces I may be a little uncomfortable with. Fashion Week always inspires, period. It's a safe place for me to be as expressive as I want to be.

Do you plan your outfits and your bags? If so, how do you go about it?

There's no better strategy for outfit planning than stepping up your game to be a mix master. You simply can't plan each day or outfit perfectly, which is why I pack so many separates. I tend to pack a lot of third pieces which make me feel appropriate and polished. I have one fun rule while I'm on a trip: wear everything that goes into that strategically packed suitcase. It's a bit of a challenge and I sometimes surprise myself with new combos hiding in my wardrobe.

What is the coolest or weirdest celebrity interaction you've witnessed at FW?

One of our last nights at Fashion Week, we showed up to one of my favorite restaurants and they didn't have my reservation. Lucky for us, the host scrambled to find us a table in a somewhat private and dark space in the restaurant. It's wasn't long after we sat down that fashion royalty started entering the room: models, editors and creative directors. I had dinner adjacent to Maria Grazia, Hedi Slimane and Karl Lagerfeld. No big deal!
