Have you ever heard of the ancient art of ikebana? Chances are you probably have, just maybe not under that name. Otherwise known as the Japanese art of floral arrangements, the tradition dates back to the 6th century and began to flourish under the influence of Buddhist monks + tea masters.
Rabuhos ― or love hotels ― sprinkled throughout Japan's cities and small villages alike, serve a simple purpose: offering couples a space to have sex. Often adorned with mirrored ceilings, rock-walled jacuzzis, and other campy displays of desire, the spaces serve as destinations for unbridled eroticism in a country where societal norms can inhibit such encounters.
Japan has a fantastic culture, traditions and costumes, and this was the reason to use it in the theme of this wedding, and, of course, their Japanese origin was another reason. The event had everything already in place: open bar, good music and lots of desserts.
Today's couple are from different sides of the world, but they both majored in New Media and RIT which is where they first met in class. J.R (groom) is from Erie, Pennsylvania and Akiko (bride) is from Gero City in Japan. They got married at The Back Room on September 20th 2015.
