We don't know about you but we always struggle with what to wear for 'date night'! We want to look our best and non more so than the (supposed) most romantic night of the year! This DIY Valentine's Day hair and make up tutorial from fine art film photographer Lauren Balingit, make up artist Melissa Marshall and hair stylist Jes Victor, these foundations are the perfect base to get you looking your best for the big day or night.

Melissa Marshall also simply shows us how to take our day look (should your fiance be taking you on a daytime excursion!) straight to a night time look (straight to dinner afterwards? No problem!). We also heart this simple styled bun from Jes Victor and it would be the perfect engagement party up do so get practicing!

1. Start with smooth, straight hair.

2. Tease the top and crown lightly for volume. Divide the back down the middle into two sections.

3. Form a knot with the two sections with one end on top and the other on the bottom. Pull ends to make the knot tighter.

4. Wrap the bottom section over the top around the knot and secure with bobby pins.

5. Continue wrapping both ends around the knot to form a bun and secure with bobby pins.

Simple Valentines Day looks

1. Start by perfecting the skin. Using your ring finger or a concealer brush, apply concealer under the eye and on any blemishes.

2. Follow with your choice of tinted moisturizer, BB Cream, or foundation to even out the skin.

3. To enhance the eyes, use a soft eye pencil (pictured in brown), to shade in the lash line. This will really make the lashes appear thicker. Follow this step by curling the lashes and adding a few coats of mascara.

4. To make the cheeks pop, apply a bright blush to the apples of the cheeks, blending upward toward the temples. You can add a soft highlight on top of the cheek bone to accentuate and add a soft glow.

5. To finish your soft and pretty Valentine's look, add a sheer pink lipstick or gloss and you're ready to go!

How to take you Valentine's Day makeup to Valentine's Night

*To intensify your makeup for a more evening look, apply a bolder lip color, and add a touch more color on the cheeks.
