Cute Homespun Marquee Wedding with an Indoor Picnic

Cute Homespun Marquee Wedding with an Indoor Picnic

via

I have the sweetest couple gracing the blog this afternoon.

Amber and James were married in August of last year, they held their super cute wedding celebration at Mountains Country House in Kent. All smiles, love and vibrant reds and blues.

Their day was homespun through and through, from the traditional iced cake to the gingham table cloths and bunting. Their family all helped to contribute to their day which added such a personal and homely feel.

Amber wore a lace lea length dress with fur shrug and red shoes while the pretty maids wore flirty navy blue frocks. I just love all of those book inspired details and that indoor picnic too :-)

Thanks so very much to the brilliant Milkbottle Photography for sharing these images with us.

THE PROPOSAL | There wasn't really a proposal - more of a 'shall we get married?' 'yes' 'let's crack on then!'

THE VISION | We wanted it to be relaxed and fun! So although we wanted the church and marquee, we had a picnic as our wedding breakfast and a cake buffet. The photo booth was brilliant for the evening and brought out everyone's silly side! Our family and friends helped out so much with the preparations and running of the day. We borrowed crockery from friends (we had to do a last minute dash to one of my mum's friends as we were 10 short), my great uncle iced the cake my nan made, My nan sorted out all of the flowers, I made my own bouquet and got my sisters involved with helping with some of the decorations (decopatching), I made the bunting, James, me, his mum and my mum sorted out the sweetie table. My dad drove me to the church in my little pink car after my step dad had it all valeted! All in all our family and friends were what made our day so special!

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We knew we wanted to get married in the old church in the village we grew up in, and after looking at a few venues, we went to mountains and thought that it was perfect!

THE VENUE |Mountains Country House, Hildenborough.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | I didn't like going into wedding dress shops, I knew what I wanted (knee length tea dress) and the shops I went into didn't have very many (maybe 1 or 2 to choose from) and I felt the whole process was uncomfortable and awkward! I found the perfect dress online (eBay!) and had it custom made for me. Once it got here it was absolutely perfect!! I wore it with 2 petticoats to make it really stick out! My tiara was borrowed from my auntie, and my cousin did my hair for me - we didn't really know how we were going to do it until a couple f days before the wedding!

GROOM'S ATTIRE |James' suit was a gorgeous blue colour from Moss Bros with a knitted red tie and Kurt Geiger Chelsea boots. I think his shoes cost more than my dress did!!

THE READINGS & MUSIC | One of my cousins read 'Us Two' by AA Milne and James' granddad read from the song of solomans. Our first dance was John Legend 'All of Me'.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | The bridesmaids wore swing style tea dresses, again from eBay as we couldn't find what we wanted in the shops! My cousin and I did all the girls hair in the morning once mine was done!

THE FLOWERS | My bouquet and the bridesmaids were made by myself from book pages, they took ages but I absolutely love them! The rest of the flowers were done by my nan, all the pedestals, button holes and corsages, pew ends - the list goes on!

THE CAKE |My nan made the fruit cake and my great uncle iced it - he has iced a lot of the family wedding cakes! We didn't realise he uses very old fashioned icing and we had trouble cutting the cake! We then had a cake buffet as our desert - It looked (and the cakes tasted) amazing!!

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Ben and Tim from Milkbottle photography. James and I aren't massive fans of having out pictures taken, but they made us feel so relaxed and took such amazing pictures if our special day! They really did capture the feel and magic of our day!

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | Most of the decorations were done by myself, I made the bunting, decopatched with my sisters, got the sweetie table all together, My sisters also helped with the signage! Other decorations were supplied and put up by Helen Tinworth - who was amazing and knew exactly what we were after! I sourced the picnic baskets and my now mother-in-law helped with making the table cloths from some fabric I found! I spent a lot of time in Hobbycraft!

THE HONEYMOON | Our honeymoon was amazing! We went to Italy for 3 weeks and travelled on the trains from the South to the North ending in Sardinia for a week! We stared in Naples, went on to Rome, then Florence, then Venice and finally Milan before flying to Sardinia. We had the best time and spent most of it sightseeing!

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | The whole day was incredible, but if I had to pick a most memorable moment it would be when we were trying to cut the cake!

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Try not to stress, whatever happens happens and you can't change it so just go with it!
